Random Dogs and Random Old Woman.

edited July 2010 in Vent
So there were these two random dogs that came into my yard.
No big deal, I'm a dog person and they were friendly dogs.
Well I tried to get them to come with me down the street to go ask someone if these were his dogs.. Turns out they were, but I didn't find this out until later.

Well on my way walking down the road, about fifty feet away was an old woman walking her dog on about a ten foot leash. (Which I would not consider a leash.)

The random dogs that showed up in my yard took off after it.
The woman screams at me for it. "YOUR DOGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON LEASHES!!!" In a very rude tone.

Well they weren't my dogs. I hate it when people assume things. I yelled back "They aren't my dogs!" in a nicer tone than her's. But I really just wanted to yell meaner things lol.

I know it's lame sounding, but I absolutely cannot take it when people assume things.

And anyways I don't think a ten foot leash should be considered a leash.. Lol more like a rope.

 • I've had to run neighbors dogs down the street to get them home before. I've never been yelled at, and I would never yell at someone about it, even though I am a firm believer of leash laws.

Did the other dogs go after her dog? I'd be understanding if that happened. I was walking a Lhasa Apso once, and these 2 kids had a pitt bull in their front yard that wasn't on a leash, just sitting between them. If they hadn't had such quick reflexes when it started to run towards me, my dog could have been seriously injured if not killed by such a large dog. I didn't say anything, because it scared me so bad. I just picked up my dog and walked home after that, and I seriously hope those people realized that their dog could have seriously hurt another animal, possibly a human, because they were being defiant.

 • They did go towards it, but they weren't going to attack. And the other dog was about the same size, if not bigger than the dogs I was trying to get home.. Lol

 • Whether they were going to attack, or just check the other dog out, it can still be very scary for an owner when another dog comes running towards them off a leash.

 • I hate it when people use "leashes" like that. I was once walking my aunts two dogs on the side walk, both who hate other dogs, both who were on very short leashes. Well these one people had their dog on a leash so long it could run all over their yard and thr sidewalk. My aunts dogs tried to attack it and the owners got mad at me. I couldve cared less what they said to me though, I was worried more about getting something bit off by two dogs who were all riled up by some little dog who ran over to them and started nipping their heels. Some people.

 • Now that I think about it, do leash laws state how long your leash has to be? Long leashes(practically ropes, like you said) aren't much protection for your pet while in public. If your walking on the sidewalk with a leash like that, your dog could easily run into a car.

 • I bet in some areas it is a law, most likely a minimum length of 6 feet.

 • I hate long leashes. There is a woman with a bernese mountain dog that often walks her down our street. She has no control over it because it's such a long leash. It goes all over the road. She once asked if her dog could play with our dogs and now they sometimes play together-but when she tries to call it back it doesn't listen.
