Book ideas?

edited June 2010 in General Discussion
I won't be able to do much but sit around and read for awhile, so any book ideas?<br>I can only read scary books, I loose interest in books easily.<br><br>And, I got this new book at borders(copyright is 2010), it's called "The Tension of Opposites". Its really good so far. It's been half a day and I'm already halfway through it. That's incredible for me. xP

  • Read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. I bawled the whole time. Then I watched the movie, and I bawled the whole time.<br>I also read "The Diary of Anne Frank". The Holocaust interests me in general. I hate the fact that it happened, but it shocks me, and that's what makes me read.

  • I dont know if your reading books aimed at teens or adults, because I have never read those books lol. But if your reading teens ones you could try Darren Shans Demonata series. It didnt really scare me but I thought lt was very interesting. I also liked his Cirque Du Freak series. I also liked The Devouring by Simon Holt, which has a sequel I havent had the chance to read yet. I also read Nursery Crimes by Ayelet Waldman. It was a cute book, not really sure what age group ots aimed at. But if youre reading books aimed at adults (That contain some "mature" content, which these following books do) you could try Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, Empire by David Dunwoody, Judas Kiss by JT Ellison, The Unwanted by John Saul, Purgatorys Gate by Raymond van Over, The Funhouse by Dean Koontz, The Reach by admin2 Kenyon and Beneath Still Waters by Matthew J Costello. Those books contain very much adult content, you have been warned. (:

  • Books and short stories by Ray Bradbury. I've been fond of "Fahrenheit 451" because it was scary and tripped me out a little bit. However, "Something Wicked This Way Comes" seems to be more popular and praised.<br><br>"The Tell Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe is a scary short story. If possible, try picking up a collection of his works. A lot of them can be scary, but I found "The Tell Tale Heart" to be the scariest. I'd say why, but it would ruin it if you've never read it.<br><br>Now for the set of books that scared me worse than anything I've ever read...."Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark" by Alvin Schwartz. They are kid's books, but I swear...they can scare the pants off an adult, especially when coupled with the creepy illustrations. There are 3 books, and they aren't too long so they should be very affordable. They are supposedly all based of folklore and what not. Some of the stories I could never forget because they are as scary. There are also interesting stories(that are kind of scary up until the twist), and I think there is a song/rhyme or two.
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
  • I loved Scary Stories to tell in the dark as a kid! I still remember most lf the stories. Another book I have full of scary short stories is The Walking Trees by Roberta Brown. Those stories still give me the creeps.
