Nook Reviews + protection plan help

Protection plans.

->Barnes & Noble
B&N has a one year protection plan that automatically comes with the Nook. <a href="http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/protectionplan/standard/index.asp"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">This is the standard warranty that comes with the Nook and lasts for a year. Doesn't cover much, and doesn't cover theft, etc. Which I don't like ): People enjoy running off with my technology. I've gotten two iPods stolen right out of my purse [someone literally kicked my purse out from in between my feet when I wasn't paying any attention, and stole my iPod, then proceeded to hide my purse.

The two-year protection plan is a little more forgiving, but doesn't cover stains, or rust, or anything that could happen to the Nook. It does cover accidental handling, protection against spills, drops, etc. Doesn't cover theft.<a href="http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/protectionplan/index.asp?PID=30923"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">This is the protection plan. It is also non renewable. [Damn it, I want something I can go renew every two years!]

->BestBuy
Best Buy's warranty links are broken D; So if anyone could help me out there, it would be greatly appreciated.

*************

No, I don't have my Nook yet ;-; It makes me sad. But I have to save up for a few more weeks.

Anyhow, I'm reading the reviews for this, and the three main issues people have been having is the reaction time, which isn't very serious. They say it's slow, when you want to change pages in a book you are reading, etc. I tried the Nook out at the Best Buy in the mall by my house, and, after the alarm got turned off [-_-], I was able to see that it had a rather quick reaction time, it just takes a little longer to load. Besides, I tried out the Sony E-Reader at Borders, and at Wal-Mart, and it's the exact same issue. Only slower. And the touch screen on the touch Sony is -horrible- x.x
The big issue is that some people get defective technology, and I can understand being pissed at it, but it doesn't mean that all Nooks are going to be like that... It's like the reviews for the EnV2. Some people hated it, but my mom -adores- hers. Same with the EnVtouch.

Another issue is the battery life and slow start up. If you turn off your WiFi, and put it into Airplane mode [this is taken from someone who has had her Nook for over a month now], your battery life will be a lot longer. Slow start up time can be explained by the fact that it's a computer. Does your Mac/PC *automatically* give you the sign-on screen? No. And when you sign in, are you able to immedietly get onto the Internet, or Chat, or AIM or whatever? It's like the graphing calculators at school. Sometimes they reset themselves, and it takes like 3 minutes for them to restart x.x

It's just a computer xD Like the Sony and the Kindle. And, it doesn't have the kinks worked out yet.. But software/firmware updates make it go faster and work out problems and all.

Anyhow.

  • I'd suggest being extremely careful with your Nook(when you get it) so that the warranty is never even a concern. When I carry my Acer netbook around in my bag, there is just no way you could get me to let go of my bad unless it's sitting directly in front of me. It's seriously only a quick zip away from the hands of thieves. The truth of he matter is that if you take something expensive with you, you're asking for it to be stolen, so you better keep your eye on it at all time. If you don't need to have it out with you, then you're better off leaving it at home.
As for scratches and what not, I'd suggest a good neoprene case/sleeve. They are flexible, strong, and highly water resistant! If they make fitted silicon covers for Nook, I'd also recommend that.

As for defective technology, if a fair amount of people are complaining about it, then it's probably true to some extent. I wouldn't ignore those complaints, but that also shouldn't stop you from purchasing a Nook. Ask yourself if you really want to spend X amount of money on something that could malfunction. Some people don't care because warranties normally cover to replace/fix them, but others equate known problems to mean the item is junk. In the end just make sure you have a long lasting warranty(assuming the problems are known to pop up after owning the product for awhile).
    I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.

I know, but a lot of my things need to be able to face anything possible. My DS has lasted forever, though I have spilled things on it, and it's been tossed under my bed [I didn't know it was in the stack of junk I put under my bed..], it's been put through my brothers abuse and whatnot.
Not a lot of people complained about it, but it happens. I need a good warranty for it, just in case, because I read a LOT.

  • And I'd be absolutely heartbroken if my Nook died ;-; I got so excited when I saw that they had the Nook that I'm going to get marked down to 199... I haven't seen my eyes light up like that in a while.
