English Dissertation Books/Topics?

edited June 2010 in General Discussion
So, I need to decide on a broad topic for my English dissertation and then read 3/4 books over summer which involved said theme.

Themes I'm thinking of,

The Oppression of Women: The Colour Purple, A Thousand Splendid Suns and Beloved?

Or

Sin and Redemption/Guilt: Kite Runner, Atonement, then As I Lay Dying or The Scarlet Letter were both suggested, but I have read neither I need to double check they fit that theme.

Anyone got any other ideas? Or can suggest any books that would fit into either of these themes?

 • I don't think I've read any of those but The Scarlet Letter. It definitely fits the category you've put it in.

 • You have good themes. I've read A Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite Runner before. They fit perfectly into their themes.

I'm gonna look through past books and see if I can find anything for you to add to the topics.
