Question about e-mails

edited June 2010 in General Discussion
Does everyone more or less know that if you use an MM in selling/trading kennels, you don't have to remove your e-mail?

We generally change it when we log in to check expiration dates, change the password, etc.

There really isn't any reason to remove an e-mail, unless you just want to be locked out of your account until we can get the e-mail reset so you can retrieve the password (As has happened twice in the past few days :P )

Now go make sure you have valid e-mails on all your accounts

 • I'm confused by this post... why would you change our emails to check expiration dates or change our passwords..?

 • If a kennel is being sold using us as an MM, part of our job is to make sure the person buying isn't being scammed. Since we don't take login info until the seller has given the money, we know the seller isn't going to be scammed.

If the kennel is supposed to expire July 15th, 2011, but instead expires tomorrow, the only way to know for sure is to log in. Or if it's supposed to have 2 changes and instead has none, etc. This also keeps the new owner from logging and taking things, like imports off the account and claiming they were never there or changing the account type and then claiming the changes weren't there. They can do it, but the Op knows there were there when the kennel was handed over.

We change the password while we're there so the previous owner can't log into the account before the new owner does and change the password or removed dogs/money that's supposed to be left on the account. It also to keeps anyone the previous owner may have shared the account with from logging in.

We change the e-mail so the new owner doesn't have personal information on the seller and so that if we make a mistake and copy the new password wrong, we can retrieve the info for the new buyer (Yes, I have had to do this on occasion  ) This also keeps the buyer from claiming that the seller scammed them by not giving the correct password, since the Op is the only other one to have the password. I've also had in the past that the seller copied the wrong login and couldn't remember the correct one, without a working e-mail on the account, we had to wait until the owner could get the password and send it to them.

There's been a couple instances in the last few days that people have removed their e-mail for whatever reason and then the password messed up. Without an e-mail on the account, the only way to get the login is to put a support ticket in, which may time to get an answer on.

The point is that if you are using an Op to MM for a transaction, there's no reason to not leave a working e-mail on the account. There really isn't any reason to not have a working e-mail on any account at any time, but there are reasons why not having a working e-mail can cause problems.
