But I thought youd like vampires.

If one more person says that I am going to explode. Let me explain something Just because I am a teenage girl, it does NOT mean I am obssessed with vampires. Just because I listen to rock it also doesnt mean I like them. It gets on my last nerve when adults(thats mostly who does it) assume that. I mean, there are certain vampires I like, Darren Shans, Vladimir Todd, and The Lost Boys, but thats never who they ask about. Its always Twilight or Trublood or whatever. It just annoys me.

 • As a former goth, and a former young teen, I've been through false assumptions many times(especially with adults). It's annoying, but when you choose to dress a certain way, listen to certain music, and so on, people will always assume things. I won't lie, I also assume things when I see people wearing certain things, or when they tell me they listen to certain music. I try not to assume bad things(if I do, I try to ignore them unless they prove true), but what seems good to me, may seem horrible to another. A lot of times they, like myself, don't mean it as an insult, they just don't understand. The best thing to do is politely correct them(if they are being polite to you/mean well), and then let it go.

A more recent/detailed personal experience of mine:
Like you with vampires, people often assume I listen to American music. I'm a girl, I speak English, and live in America. To them it only seems reasonable that I would be into American music. I'm not though. People that come up to me to talk about Lady GaGa, and what not don't mean to insult/annoy me. I'm just not going to hold it against them if they made a mistake in judgment. Instead of fretting, I'd prefer to spend the energy enjoying my kind of music.

Obviously not everyone feels this way. I just thought I'd post my opinion/experiences in case you haven't looked at the situation in in same angle.

 • Usually Im fine when strangers assume. Ill just tell them "Nah Im not really into that but its cool that your kid is" But it just gets to me when my friends parents and my family whove known me forever assume that. Ive told them all multiple times I dont like it, but they continue to try and get me Twilight and etc stuff for bithdays or Christmas or whatever, and then they get upset when I dont like it. I guess this is more about adults who refuse to listen...but either way both of those annoy me
This is the worst part. My mom does this to me with pants. I HATE when other people buy clothes for me, but no matter how many times I tell my mom "Don't buy me pants unless I'm there!" I always seem to get about 2 or 3 pairs from her random shopping trips, or as birthday/Christmas presents. Every time I've had to say "I'm not going to wear that" I'm the bad person, and it's just not fair, especially since I made it clear not to get me clothes without my consent.

I'm honestly at a loss as to why people seem to do those things. Stubbornness, forgetfulness, I just don't have any idea.

 • When I was in 8th grade, my conselor told my mom I should play sports instead of hanging outside at street corners at night, and her opinion of me was not based on any interaction or any thing other than I wore a lot of dark clothes.
They also told my mom I was depressed and had anger issues, and that she should look into that [Also based on my clothing choices]
If they had ever even talked to me, they would have known I'm one of the happiest people to have survived middle school.

But yeah, my family does the same thing. I cannot tell you how many times I got asked if I liked Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance.
 • Haha, someone popped my chain on my Tripp jeans in eighth grade D: These Twilight movies are honestly getting on my nerves. Every magazine I read, it's all about Rob and Kristin, and his (2nd?) proposal, etc. D<

Anyhow. I shop where it's cheap ;D
