Greed.

My brother is probably going to end up being like Scrooge. Or a banker that everyone hates for his stinginess. I swear.
So he lost a tooth yesterday. Okay, thats fun. He expected fifteen dollars for this tooth. He came downstairs on the verge of tears this morning, saying in a wavering voice "Momma, I only got a dollar fifty ;-;"

I'm serious, guys. I mean, we all like money, but I tend to not accept money when people give it to me. And when they force me to accept it, I save it for a while, to wait for something I want. [I.e, the Nook. I'm getting it for my birthday, but I need money to buy books to put on it.]

He just wants Pokemon cards. And he charges outrageous prices for everything. He rarely does anything to help out around the house [I try to clean the kitchen and fix dinner and whatnot], and when he does, he charges $20+ dollars for everything. He makes me mad.

  • How old is he? If he's younger, that's how a lot of little kids are. They don't understand that money does not come out of thin air and how hard it is to earn. My sister kept asking for these little band things (they are like rubberbands and a new craze here), and we are in trouble of losing our house. She doesn't understand that we have bigger problems then her getting stuff. I haven't asked for anything money wise and started to pay for my own school lunches out of birthday money so I didnt have to ask for more cash.

So, it may just be a phase and hopefully he'll see. Then again it may not. Just grit your teeth and try to bare with it. :)

  • I used to get anywhere from 1-4 quarters. Once I lost a few teeth I had enough to go on a shopping spree at the $0.99 store, and that was fascinating enough for me as a little kid.

What made him think he was getting $15? Most people I know got quarters, or a dollar bill. I could understand giving like $5 for the very first tooth, but it's too expensive to give more than that for all of the other teeth.

The last part sounds like my brother. I had to pay him $60 to clean ONE room, and then he had to keep it clean for a month or so. All of his stuff is up in that room, and he's that one that plays his games up there, so it was all his mess. He's 18 btw.

The truth is that if someone indulges the behavior(whining to get more money), then he's going to do it until people wise up to it. I know both my brother and I sure did, but it didn't last long(we didn't even have much money when we were that young). Now I hate getting money, because when I have money my mom makes me pay for everything. D:

  • Man, if I had told my mom 'no, not unless you give me $20', she would have hit me so hard I'd want to pay her to never hit me that hard again. Sounds a little like a discipline problem, to be honest.

I got $5 for my first two teeth, because I lost them at the same time. After that I don't even think I put my teeth under my pillow, because I had all but one of my baby teeth pulled at the dentist, and my teeth scared me. ;p

  • Oh man, my parents have enough money to buy me things, but as a punishment, they decided that I should get a job and pay for my own groceries.
So I have been.
Actually for the past week or so, my mom has been waiting to get paid and keeps borrowing money from me- I have no idea how much, because I get tips where I work, so my actual cash flucuates.
If I tried to charge them for anything D:
I just do what they ask me to, if it's reasonable.
And I'm an only child, so much for being spoiled.

YES! Silly bands! I have a trumpet, guitar, and ax guitar my sister gave me xDD

And yeah, I think its discipline also like others have said. What I've found is a lot of parents aren't as strict on the second child. ;)

I would get silver dollars and the gold ones with Sacagewea on it. I have no idea how to spell her name, and probably butchered it. Hah.
But. I'm getting paid for babysitting him. I think my mom is going to buy my Nook [which will be over $200 dollars... It's $200 dollars plus tax], and I'll buy the accessories. So, she owes me 60, plus the twenty I have, which is 80, and then save up for two more weeks, which is $160...So. I'm excited ;D

  • I get $15 for mowing the front & back lawn, and edging the pool. In 100+ degree weather. O_o
My brother has a slight ammount of autism, and all he does all day is sit on his butt and play modern warfare. -.-
When I lost a tooth, I would get a nickel per tooth, and that would make my day. $1.50 would've scared me. xD

It's Halo3 for my brother. -_- And exactly. He just sits on his ass all day.

It's too hard to discipline children anymore. Funny enough I was just talking about this with my fiance this morning. I remember growing up it wasn't unusual that if you got into trouble then you got a spank. (Obviously not hard, I'm not saying my parents abused me because I have never felt that way. I love my parents very much!) Nowadays what can you do? Send them to their room? Gladly they will go because a lot of the times that's where the handheld video games are, or tvs, computers. It's not a punishment to be sent to your room. Kids just get away with too much nowadays and have no respect for anyone. Like the kids on my street now, because our road just got paved the kids are out on their skateboards and rollerblades, but one girl was sitting IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD on her skateboard and wanted me to go around her?!?! (Did I mention I was in a HUGE truck?) Did she not realize that if I had've come whipping around the corner like most people do then she would have been hit? And yes kids are a lot more greedy nowadays, but things cost a lot more to buy as well. I really think that schools should be teaching MANNERS and RESPECT in classes because that's where kids spend most of their time and I believe that kids are more likely to listen to their teacher than to their parents. (I know this from experience.=P)
  • If my brother even mentions he used to get spanked/my dad used to spank me, they have DSS on our asses.
Welcome to the 21st century.

  • Wow that's ridiculous. I know that with my cousin they just gave her the number and told her "If they do ANYTHING you don't like, just call and tell these people" anyways, she called the number enough for things like, not putting out her favorite food, or not going hiking because it was raining out. Anyways, they took her and her little brother away because she just kept calling. Even though my aunt and uncle have never laid a hand on them.

I think thats just stupid. Why are you sitting in MY house. Talking to MY parents. When there are 5 year olds out there being treated like David.
