• If you go to a dermatologist they can give you samples and even pills to help get everything under control.

  • I've never had a problem with pimples, but 2 weeks ago I got a disgusting break out on my forehead and 2 red marks on my cheek. I guess I was asking for it since I rarely do any skin care except for a moisturizer and a facial mask every so often. I've been fighting my break out with an off brand of clearasil, a strong astringent, and my regular homemade facial mask of aspirin and honey(you can find reviews and instructions online). Seriously, 3 days after treating my break out 2 people told me "You have such nice skin." I was surprised to say the least.

If you don't already do a regular skin care routine, then you should try to get into the habit of doing it. Ever since my break out I've been using skin care products everyday, and I've personally noticed a huge change and no new red bumps. If you do take care of your skin, and nothing is working then you should talk to a dermatologist.

That is true, but when I first started breaking out I used everything under the sun, the only thing that worked where this special vitamins that where $150 for a months worth. -.-
Unfortunately, I was given my fathers genes.
But, my face has cleared up for the most part now, I only occasionally get blemishes.

Sometimes you have to give your body time before your hormone levels go down, it sucks, I know. But, it will eventually stop - sometimes others body take longer. Stress could be causing your breakouts to.

  • Well, lemme tell you something odd.

I went on it all. For a couple years I actually must say. I had HORRIBLE break outs. Went on all the "proven" to work stuff. Expensive stuff. Even went to the dermatologist. They put me on a lot of face cleaning stuff. I never did go on the pill though cause I refused. Then they changed stuff. Took me off stuff. Put me more on stuff. Then finally I told them, okay I don't think this is working, I'm breaking out. More and more. It just looks like a rash with all the acne. Then I thought about it, what if it is a rash? Even the ones that are alone, that aren't surrounded with millions. So I went off of all skin cleaning stuff and just went on a mild, soft make up remover, and just soap. Like a sensitive mild bar soap.

RESULTS? I barley have any acne now. I determined that my skin was so sensitive to it all that it made me break out more and react strongly to it.

So maybe your skin is sensitive X)
See I thought that was it at first. Hoped it was just a rash so I went to the dermitologist. It started out as try this $200 cream. So I bought a tube. Wen't home and the next day my cheecks were puffed out and it spread to my eyes. Thats when I tried pills, with horrible side-effects.

My acne started more back when I was.. 11 years old. Of course back then i was a nose-picker and finger sucker so i had my hands all over my face. Oils is my main problem(i hope) so il head down to sephora and buy some Philosophy.

But like you said sensitive skin probably. My acne got a bit better after i stopped for some time. And then they well... started popping with puss. And I got so many blackheads on my nose. It was horrible.

So pretty much I have to use more natural things than something that says acid so yeah Thanks!

  • It does sound like you're using a LOT of harsh products. If it's not working anyway you should definitely consider scaling it back D: Don't forget that makeup can make it worse, too!

If you know you are prone to allergic reactions, try to use as few products as possible and give them a couple of weeks before you gauge the results. Changes in skin chemistry and the healing process take a long time. Cetaphil, alone, and a moisturizing hypoallergenic sunscreen designed to be used on one's face finally did it for me.

Neutrogena recently started doing this SkinID thing. They have a test you can do online that appears pretty comprehensive. Have you tried checking that out? Just do a search for Neutrogena SkinID, I'm sure you'll find it. I don't know if their products work, haven't tried them yet, but they appear to have sound science behind them.

  • So it's been a long while since I had to deal with acne and back when I did, they didn't have nearly the products you have now. The ones we did have were like trying to scrape your face with sand paper soaked in rubbing alc0hol.

The thing I found that worked wonderfully for me was Noxema. I had bad combination skin and I found that Noxema evened things out while cleaning out the pores. Afterward, my face felt about 5 lbs lighter, tighter and softer.

My mom just bought some of the Noxema cold cream a few days ago since she said she used it when she was younger. I don't know if it treats acne(she doesn't get any), but she said it makes your skin super soft and it makes your face feel fresh. It doesn't seem very harsh. I haven't tried it yet, but my mom would highly recommend it.
I used it when I was younger! It worked so well, and now I can't find it at my store.

So maybe I should just drop off all the other stuff and just order it online?

  • Okay so ya'll are magic. After listening to your advice it looks 100% better. I cannot belive that trying to not use as many harsh products helped. I always thought that Extra Strength was better. Thanks to all!

There is no more acne on my cheeks more or less small bumps instead of wasp stings. My forehead is still pretty bad, but deffinettly better. My chin has NO acne at all. My nose is better.

(:(:(:(: Thanks!!

This is extremely true. Whenever you use products that reduce oil, you have a chance of reducing it too much, which tells your body to produce even more oil, which then gives you really oily skin and break outs. Since I like using an astringent I have to make sure I only use it once a day, or the above could happen.

  • I am the opposite, my skin is too dry. D:
  • I have bangs which probably makes it more oily?

  • Toonya wrote:

Most likely, depends if you sweat a lot to.
  • I got rid of my bangs because no matter how often I washed my face, the forehead behind the curtain was a battlezone. It can be hard to pull your bangs back and expose your acne, but the result of healthier skin overall is well worth it. Just remember that people who would give you a hard time for having bad skin are too insecure themselves to have anything better to do :)

By the way, that skin overproducing oil thing is also true for exfoliating. If you use products like apricot scrubs with large, hard particles to exfoliate they will actually scratch and damage your skin, triggering a heal response and causing your skin to throw out way more cells than it needs to. If you're going to exfoliate, it's best to do it infrequently and with a product involving microdermabrasion, which is much smaller particles and much less likely to cause injuries to your dermal layer. I even just use a grape seed mask, and after suffering through my skin's recovery period it's healthier now than it was before I freaked out and started torturing it :)

Same. D:

Whenever my parents talked about having acne, they always told me, "The best thing to do is wash your face with a gentle soap every day." But I don't have acne, so I wouldn't know if it helps any. xD Probably not, but it's bound to be good for your skin anyways.
  • Toonya wrote:
I have bangs too. What happens is that the natural oil and any products you use on your hair get transferred to your forehead. Eventually it starts building up on your face so you get dirty, clogged pores, and acne. If you're not going out that day, or you're sitting at home clip your bangs up.

Not everyone gets it from bangs, but quite a few do. Just depends on how your skin reacts, and if you keep your bangs and face clean.

  • I didn't read all the posts, cause I'm lazy, so if I say something that has been suggested, just ignore me. ;p

I don't know if you use make up, but that could be part of the problem. Like, a base foundation. I used it for years, till one day my mom came to the stunning conclusion that the 'acne' on my face, was a rash from being allergic to the oil in the foundation. I stopped using any skin make up (just use eye make up now), and simply use Dove soap to wash my face twice a day. My face has since cleared up beautifully, to the point I don't even need make up.

I was using all different kinds of soaps and scrubs, trying to find something that would work, but I've found that plain ol moisturizing Dove soap works the best. I had the same issue with pills and prescribed creams, I had a reaction to them.

  • It's true, I've seen unscented plain dove soap recommended by many many dermatologists for the treatment of acne. the idea is that it increases the health of your skin so that it can fight the acne of it's own accord.

  • I have been riding horses lately... So I have to work in the barn feeding and riding horses wqith those hot helmets. So I do sweat.
    1zfr42u.jpg
  • When I did ride horses alot, I would get breakouts all over where the helmet was. It's terrible. I've been breaking out on my lipline recently, and after I picked at them(I'm terrible with that), it looked like a had a bunch of fever blisters. You could be having an allergic reaction to one of the products, actually. I rarely ever have any issues with my skin, except around the time I get my monthly cycle. All I do is use Clearasil face wash in the shower and the clearasil wipes after getting out of the shower(before bed), after waking up, and after lunch. When I go crazy with products, that's when I break out worse.

Bangs are most likely making it worse as well. Make sure to keep them clean. Pin them back with a clip/ brush them to the side and clip them/ grow them out to be side bangs. Keep em out of your face. Don't pick at your face. Slow down on the products.
