  It's amazing he hasn't been adopted! He's absolutely GORGEOUS (and that's not even a good enough word to describe him). He sounds like a great dog all-around. Does very well with other dogs, cats are fine, etc. Only $90! That's so cheap for a dog like that! I'd have to search for months to find a dog like that around here, and it'd be much more expensive in our shelters.<br><br>He looks extremely soft. He almost looks like he's smiling. He'd do good in any deserving home. Poor boy. He shouldn't even be considered an adult in my opinion. Two years is still a puppy to me :P I could understand if he was like 9-15 years old and people were thinking, "Once we get him and have him settled in, he's just going to die of old age in no time," - because it'd be really hard to get attached to an dog right before he/she dies. Anyway, anyone would be lucky to have him!

  You'd be amazed at what ends up in shelters. I've seen so many rare or beautiful purebreds and mutts.<br> My dog Darwin, is a 6 pound , mostly white, red merle, with blue eyes pomeranian. He's got a great personality. He's exactly what I would have spent over $1000 to get from a breeder(which I had already picked out) had I not found him at the pound. I think too many people over look shelter dogs because they assume they are mutts, ugly, and have poor personalities, which just isn't true.<br><br> I imagine he has remained in a shelter, because of what they assume he is. I've owned both of what they think he's made up of, and both have high energy. There is also chance he has a flaw in person, such as excessive barking, and they just haven't listed it. If they are strict enough to make it so you have to be 19 to adopt, then their rules and requirements are probably very strict, and that might turn people away. I won't adopt from almost all private rescues because of the way they act. It makes trying to find a companion a nightmare.<br><br> Whatever the reason, he is indeed a <span style="font-style:italic">gorgeous</span> dog, and $90 is a cheap adoption fee.

  Agreed. You would be surprised what ends up in shelters. Even in my tiny, rural shelter we get awesome dogs. <br><br>Right now, we have an English Setter in there. He was turned in with his pedigree, family histry, OFA health tests, etc. I felt like it was the breeders right to know where their dog was so I pressured the shelter director to contact the breeder. Lucky us, he's picking Gunner up today. I'm excited for him. This is the second shelter the dog has been in. <br><br>Of the 30 dogs we have right now, 10 of them are "purebred." People don't realize that they can get whatever they want in a shelter. They aren't all mutts and they aren't all bad dogs.

  That is quite true, Sushi.<br>I remember when my cousin adopt a Yorkie/Chi. mix from a PET STORE and it died two days later, I told her that she could have found the same exact dog in a shelter...and all she said was, yeah but I don't want to go through that whole process blahblahblah.<br>So, I guess the strict policies, etc. have a lot of effect on potential adopters. However, the shelter does all it can to ensure that the dog doesn't return to a shelter. <br>I think the more expensive adoption fees are $200-250, but that's northern Alabama, the cheaper ones are in southern Alabama, from my knowledge.<br><br>Even though I buy from breeders and plan to be a breeder myself, I would never hesitate to adopt from a shelter.
