Another dog rant

edited May 2010 in Vent
Okay, so. My friends dog just had puppies, they didn't even know she was pregnant. She is a long hair dachshund/rat terrier and the father of the puppies is a Maltese. Her mom is a single mother with 3 kids, why she got multiple dogs if she can't afford to get it fixed? I don't know.
She said the money that she get's from the pups is going towards getting the dog fixed....so, I messaged her thinking they where only going to sell them for $20 (because it's only $60 at the SPCA to get a dog fixed). So I asked her how much she was going to sell them for, and she told me $300!!!!

That's a total of $1500 after selling ALL the pups...for a MUTT I am not going to pay $300!
And I read the comments under the pictures and her mom said "If she doesn't get fixed she's going to a new home" um, WTF! That's YOUR responsibility! And then I saw another comment that said "She can be your money making machine" First off, the dog is like 6-7, and shouldn't be bred any longer, secondly dogs are NOT toys. Obviously, they do not care about the dogs because they have done NO research or put any effort into reading the basics. Not to mention she just had a litter 6 months-1 year ago...

 • No one will pay $300 for them, unless she convinces them they are some type of purebred. It's wishful thinking.

I wouldn't have a problem if she re-homed the dog. Maybe it will go to a home where they will get it fixed so she doesn't have to keep having puppies.

That's what I was thinking, that no one would buy them.
But people are impulsive buyers and will most likely buy them.

I don't see why people would(but they prob will), when you can get a mixed puppy from a shelter for half that. :?
I wish people researched their pets.

 • As do I. I remember when they first got this dog, I was in the 6th grade.
And they probably didn't even pay 300 for the mom and dad in whole, I actually think they got the mom for free. If I was going to pay $300 I would get a dog that was worth it.
 • I agree. I'd get a dog from a good breeder so I could get a health guarantee and what not, or I'd go down to the shelter to help an animal out. Buying backyard-bred dogs just encourages the backyard breeders to breed more. Heck, I'd rather donate the money to a shelter than buy backyard bred puppies for $300.

 • I sometimes wonder if people know that if dogs aren't fixed they can get pregnant. Honestly.. some people are so clueless and take advantage of everything.

LOL!
I just want to steal those puppies, Lord knows they will probably go to homes who won't neauter/spay them and I think her mom is going to advertise in the newspaper. Worse thing to do in my book. Of course, they didn't "know" she was pregnant, so they have to do whatever they can to get rid of them.
They said the reason they couldn't tell she was pregnant was because she had too much hair. You would have to be blind not to see her "milkers" sagging.

Thing is, I already know these pups are already going to be "ugly" and once they grow into their adult looks they will be kicked to the curb.
I personally, think they are cute - but I know how people think.

Here are pictures of the current litter:

<img src="http://i50.tinypic.com/xds3r4.jpg"; alt="http://i50.tinypic.com/xds3r4.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Mom:

<img src="http://i50.tinypic.com/1z2narq.jpg"; alt="http://i50.tinypic.com/1z2narq.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Previous litter:

<img src="http://i48.tinypic.com/2ez4cnc.jpg"; alt="http://i48.tinypic.com/2ez4cnc.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
 • If they turn out like the last littler or the mom, then I think they are quite adorable...still not worth $300 though, unless that $300 include spay/neuter and all shots(which it obviously won't).
