Dumping/Returning Animals

edited May 2010 in Vent
I volunteer at my local humane society and a lady came in with 2 cats.

When asked if she had found them she said she got them from here. I found that interesting. When asked why she was returning them she said she couldn't afford to keep them. I understand that the economy is tough but that isn't why she was returning them...
She said she was returning them because she got a dog and couldn't afford to keep both the dog and cats.
Why would you get a dog if you knew you probably wouldn't be able to afford it?
It didn't make much sense and it angered me. Luckily the cats will be able to find a new home quickly since summer is approaching and people are looking for new pets at this time of year.
But why...why would you care for 2 cats and then get a dog you knew you couldn't afford and then dump the 2 cats at the same place that you adopted them from. :x

 • It happens. People can be lame like that ya know? I did shelter work for community service a while back. I'd hear about stuff like that all the time. atleast the cats got a new home.

 • When I worked at the shelter a lady surrendered her toy poodle because they had changed the color scheme in her house and he no longer fit in. Apparently apricot and brown leather don't go together. I wish I were kidding.
