When people call their pets their children. That's gross and weird.

 • I agree.
I love my pets to an extreme measure, but never enough to introduce
them to people as "my children."
That's disgustingly disgusting.
 • I call my pets my children, but only around my close friends, because I dont ever plan on having real kids, so I put my pets in their place. I dont introduce them to strangers as my kids. But once you devote your life to them and take care of them like babies, I dont see the harm in it :]

 • I can see loving your pet to an extent.
As an inside joke is cool, they are
always fun!
 • i call my dog my baby, but only to my friends. ill be like "my baby loves her momma" lol i really dont see anything wrong with it 0.0
 • I call my animals my babies.
It's more of a nickname to imply how special they are to me, than actually describing them as my children.
Same xD
I suppose it's in the way that they're 'smaller'(well most) then us, act like children and they give us happiness much like children do. Also a lot of people who don't/can't have children have pets instead.

What does it really matter anyway? It's just words and people have the right to call their pet's whatever they want.
I don't see how it can be disgusting, at all :|
 • I also agree with PrinceSushi and Clo.

I've been calling my dog, my baby ever since the moment I got him. I also find this vent/post slightly personally offensive, because I have been verbally attacked by people calling me weird just because I called my dog my baby. The only reason I call him my baby is, because I love him and he's a special gift I have ever received.

What Mustang said extremely offended me, because, it's kind of directing that I'm disgusting :?

I would think twice before you guys post something like this.

 • I agree with Lycan. It can be taken offensivly, sometimes all people have are their pets =(

Just be careful and figure out whether your words will offend people or not before you post them =)
 • My animals are my babies. I'm just a kid myself, so they're the closest thing I want to a baby right now! o.o I don't care whether people call me disgusting, because I'm not. Because I love my pets like I would love another human makes me disgusting? I think not. What makes it so disgusting? I think you're using the wrong word.

I love my pets and they love me back. I spoil them, I buy them food, toys, bedding, etc. It's the same with what people do with kids... Buy them the necessities and love them. It's the same, except an animal is an animal and a kid is a human.

There's nothing disgusting about it, sorry. I'm definitely not disgusting for loving my pets, whether you say so or not.
 • Many of my family friends and Close relatives call their animals children. They can't hand children. I find it as a way of coping with the situation.

• How is it disgusting?
I have a REALLY intense bonding with animals, I get attached to animals quickly and from what I see they bond back weather they be a cat, chicken, or mouse all my animals know who I am, and actually today I went inside to get something and left Kirby outside to free range and came back outside a few seconds later with him chirping loudly and when he saw me he came running and followed behind me chirping it was like saying "Don't ever do that again!". xD
I call my animals my baby, ecspecially my cat, he's become part of me. There is just a special bond that people get with their animals and no matter what that animal will always be willing to give love weather you want it or not. I guess some people just don't experience that.
 • Ummm no I think you guys are taking it too personally. I understand calling them your babies or whatever but actually intellectually mentally believing they're your children is messed up. I actually know a few that are like that. There's nothing wrong with loving your pets as much as you would love a person....

And I must say, I didn't call anyone disgusting by my post.

And I also didn't say that loving your pets like you'd love a person is disgusting.

I apologize, but in case you're confused, don't take it out of context and assume I meant something other than what I actually did mean. It makes us all look bad.

Okay well if you didn't mean calling your pets your children/babies and actually meant when people are convinced that their pets are their children, you should maybe state that. After all, you did say call. Which is why I was under the impression that you thought referring to pets as your children/babies was gross and weird or as Mustang said, disgusting.
 • My opinion is that there is nothing wrong with people who believe to some degree that animals are their children. I'd rather have them feel that way, than abuse the poor things. Animals will never be humans, but it doesn't mean they can't be the adopted children of humans. It's like a cat raising an orphan squirrel or a dog raising a tiger. 2 completely different animals, but they accept the orphans as their own offspring.

I met one man who thought his guinea pigs were his children. Yeah, at first it's a little awkward, but I admired how passionate he was about guinea pigs.

 • Well, before this topic gets out of hand; Everyone has an opinion on what they think is gross. No one person is correct. Everyone's minds work differently, so what's gross to one person, may come naturally to another.

Reina, next time try stating what you mean so that no one will take it the wrong way =)

Everyone else, take into consideration that not everything means what you think it does over the computer. It's sometimes very difficult to understand the true meaning of something through a computer.

Even I thought she meant something that she did not. I admit that, but as I said, everyones minds work differently.

If I'm out of line on this reply then I'm sorry and you guys can correct me =)
 • Well, I don't think my animals came out of me as my actual children, but I have to agree with Sushi who said it's like an "adopted child", my cat is apart of me, like I said. And animals become like children to people who care for them, I would def say that Simba is like my child. There isn't anything wrong with saying/thinking they are "adopted kids"/"babies" ecspecially when you have a tight bond, Simba has been the FIRST animal that I have had a one-on-one bond with THIS close. I've had other animals that I have bonded cloesly with but they either bonded with my family members or where part wild. And then my newer pets I've obviously developed a close bond now, Kirby is running second. lol.
They cry when you leave.
They run to you when you come back home.
You feed and water them.
You play with them.
You provide shelter.
You love them.
It's like taking care of a child.
 • what if you cant have children of your own?
That's how my nieghbors are so they call there animals there kid.
Just think.
You had a a life planned and you wanted kids.
and you cant .
Wouldn't your animals be like your kids?

The wife did get pregnant .
Carried the baby full term.
The baby came out sick and wasn't likely to survive.
then when the baby was 3 months she passed away from being sick.
Then what would you do?
Id call my animals my kids.

(and they don't believe she had the animals )

 • I'm sorry. I suppose I was just surprised someone thought it was... wrong. I've never had anyone have that kind of opinion about such a topic.
 • When animals are involved it is a sensative subject because a lot of people feel this way about their animals, it's offensive to those who do.
If someone doesn't want anyone to post their oppinons on the matter then they shouldn't post at all because weather anyone likes it or not, someone is going to post what they like, it is a public forum. (That goes for every post, not just this one.)
Everyone has their own opinnon, Reina wrote down hers and we wrote down ours - how is fair that she can say hers but when we do everyone freaks out on those who respond back to her?
No one is right or wrong in a opinnonated situation.
