Air Conditioner

edited May 2010 in Vent
Ok. When it's hot outside, and the wind is also hot, opening the windows will not cool us off. IT JUST LETS THE HOT AIR IN AND TRAPS IT. No, a fan will not help because IT'S JUST BLOWING THE HOT AIR IN YOUR FACE.

Why do we own an air conditioner if you are not going to turn it on? Why? It's stupid. Like being in a dessert with a glass of water your not allowed to drink.

So, every time my mom leaves the house I've been turning on the air conditioner. Electric bill = bad. BUT IT'S HOT MAN.

 • Different people feel different temperatures more than others. It may be that your folks are budgeting or trying to save some money. I don't know how hot it is, but try using a damp cloth and the wind. It will make you feel cooler.

My mom is probably trying to budget, that sounds like her. She also has a higher heat tolerance than I do. I think I will try that damp cloth thing, it sounds refreshing. I should make some lemonade too. c:

 • I agree with Alabama. Different people react to different temperatures differently. I'm sensitive to heat, and I live in SoCal! lol! I actually had a heat stroke a few years ago. It was 118 that day.

We don't use the air conditioner much either. It's way to expensive! Just running it a few days out here can add $100+ to our bill.

I went through a few years being stubborn until we bought a ceiling fan and black out curtains for my room. They work REALLY well out here. You can also do what Alabama said; get a damp towel and sit in front of a fan or breeze. Much cheaper than AC!

ROFL.

Anyways...
We don't use our air condition a lot, but quite a bit.
We're usually all outside anyways, and rarely inside in the summer.
The only time we're really inside doing something, is when we're sleeping.
I mean, it's not too, too expensive for us.

 • We hardly use our air condition/heater. And it gets 115+ in the summer. Only at night
 • o.o Jeez...

you guys temps. are crazy...

the MOST its ever gotten here was maybe 90.... and that's pushing it...
 • It gets around 100-120 here in Alabama during the summer, it's already in the 90's if not more. (at least the area I am in, but I am fine with that), I get cold VERY easily and I literely turn redish/purple if I get too cold. And the majority of the people I know here get hot easily -is amazed- so if I am riding in the car with my friends or my boyfriend I develop hypothermia (not really XD) but I do get cold.
 • Oh man, when it gets really hot down here I'll wear my bathing suit and hop in the shower to cool off. If you slowly lower the temperature of the water you manage to lower your core body temperature by a good bit and it makes everything much more cheerful. Just put a trashbag on your computer chair or something xD

 • If you live in the south like I do, and the houses are built really cheap like mine is, and if the air conditioner unit is really cheap like mine is, but the air conditioning cost is really expensive like it is here, then the unit breaks every few days and you have to keep the windows open ;P Plus, its really expensive, so we try to keep the windows open when it's below 85 and not too humid out. Only issue with that, is when we close the windows, the pollen(sp?) gets trapped into the house, and it makes everyones sinuses act up ;-; Makes your head feel like its full of soggy toilet paper.

That's me, I love the heat, can't stand the cold. Even making meatloaf, with refrigerator-cold hamburger makes my hands ache. I have to stop a few times while mixing it up to run my hands under the tap water to warm them up. People think I'm crazy because I use my electric blanket well into spring.

My husband and youngest daughter are just the opposite, so we make concessions to each other. I get to decide when to turn the air on and off. Turned it on for the first time yesterday, though it's been up in the 90's around here for a couple weeks already. But I'm the mistress of keeping things cool without resorting to the frigid AC. A well insulated house can be kept relatively cool if you open windows at night and then shut them about mid morning before it gets hot outside. If hubby or child start talking about being hot, I send/take them outside for an hour or so. Then when they come back in, it feels cool xP Dress in light colored clothes.

During the Fall, hubby gets to decide when to turn the heat on and off. Until he does turn it on, I just start bundling up sooner and turn on the electric blanket. I'm usually in sweat shirts weeks before he is.

Same here, SoCal weather is nice, except when it gets blazing hot in the summer. xD

But, when it gets hot, I just open all the windows, get into my bathing suit, and play with the hose. xD

 • Ugg, it was darn hot yesterday and today. I went outside only for a short time to retrieve groceries from the car, and I was sweating! I ended up throwing shorts on, opening the window, and turning up the fan. That didn't work very well at first, but luckily a breeze picked up after awhile.

 • Lol we live in this piece of Canada (yes, Canada) where there are no igloos, and it averages about 113°F (45 C) in like July and August... I hate it, but yeah in the day we shut ALL the blinds and close all the windows so it's pretty dark in the house, but it keeps out a lot of the heat, and then during the night we open up the windows so the cool air can blow in, and then in the morning shut everything again. It really helps to keep the house cool if we're not using the A/C. Then again, it's desert around here so it cools down at night.. it may not be like that for you though Chibi.. if it's more humid.
