Art - Tablet? :/

So I've been inspired to make art lately, I finally want to be able to draw. I've been practicing drawing on Paint, just little parts, such as the head, feet, etc. I'm looking into a tablet, although I have a few questions: 1. Do you have to have a Tablet to make successful art? 2. What tablets are recommended (price, quality, place to buy?) 3. Tips on how to draw? (Help on paws, eyes, etc) Thanks, everyone. 1. Absolutely not. I know of some amazing artists that don't see the need for a tablet! 2. Wacom, wacom, wacom. I myself use an intuos3 6x8, but if it's your first I'd recommend the Bamboo Funs. C: 3. Search tutorials on dA. they helped me loads.

1. No a Tablet does not make the artist. However it does help out alot and makes things easier to use once you get the hang of it. 2. I also agree with the Wacom Tablets. Thats what i have and i love it. I have the Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch it was $100

Thanks so much, Dreamy. ;D Bamboo Funs? Does that still have a good price && quality amount? I most likely won't buy more than one tablet, so if I'd get a Bamboo Funs, I'd probably stick with it. xD edittt. LMAO, 3521, D; I didn't see your post. Sorry to make you feel left out.

It's a Wacom tablet. My friend in RL had one and she abused it. XD It broke only after the threw it against her concrete floor. ;O So it's very sturdy. You can get the small for about 100 bucks, and it comes with three programs, I think. I know it comes with photoshop elements 5. C: Not many people have more than one tablet. I only got a new one once my first tablet(not a Wacom) died. It was an awful tablet, really. XD It's pressure sensitivity was so low that I didn't know it was pressure sensitive until I was researching how to fix it!

It would actually be best to learn to draw traditional before getting a tablet. The tablet cannot make you draw well. Plus, traditional art is still super cool =P I, for one, cannot draw xD I thought of getting a tablet just to help with my banner making, but I decided against it until I can enhance my drawing on paper so I get it for more than just one purpose. Just my thoughts on it.

Yes, I've been practicing sketches as well. ^^ If I can't draw on Paint, and I can't get a Tablet, I'll just be doing traditional, if I work it out. ;D

1) Nope. xD I have a friend who does wtfAMAZING hand-drawn/mouse-drawn work. 2) Wacom. Forthewin. I use a Wacom Intuos4 The... Like. Extra large size. ._. $400 tablet. 3) Practice. Use reference images.

1. Nope, but a tablet is a valuable tool to a digital artist(especcially if you want to do paintings). A tablet can easily cut work time it half. However, if you have a fancy art program that is set up specifically for making line art(like SAI) then you can do basically everything with a mouse. Other than that, there are plenty of traditional mediums available that look amazing. I'm currently venturing into watercolors. 2. Anything from wacom. In all honesty, there is no real need for a hobby artist to go beyond a very basic tablet. Definitely start with a cheaper model, and then replace it in a few years with a better model if you want. 3. I would suggest finding live models or a gallery of certain species of animals(or use your own saved images). Get a timer. Now, select a random image and take 30 seconds to draw it. Once 30 seconds is up, select a new image and start timing. Repeat for about 10-15 minutes a day. Don't make the images detailed. This is merely to help you recognize proportions, and perspective. For details, find images of canine anatomy(or whatever your curious in). In your spare time practice drawing the muscles and how they lay, stretch, bunch up, etc. on the body. How is the intuos4, Kaz? My tablet's been glitchy lately, but I've heard bad things about the 4. Like the nib runs down fast and the area you draw in does too. Course, the glitchiness is my fault since I let my rabbit eat the cord.... XD (silly rabbit, cords are for kids!) Also, for lining, most programs(even *gasp* paint!) have tools that can make it easier, such as the pen tool or the beizer tool. I for one actually didn't have a tablet for 2/3 months and I switched for the most part to pixel art. For some stuff I even prefer my mouse/trackpad! Smooth was pretty hard to do with the mouse, I'll admit. But for pixel all I did was scan in a traditionally drawn image, resize it, pixel line it, and color it! I sort of sucked back then, but there was no difference in my art from tablet - mouse. It just took a little longer until I got used to it. C: On the other hand, I'm one of those. Those being the people that are like Tablet = AMAZING art! I wasn't even drawing digitally and my traditional art was... little to be desired. XD I wish I still had some of those drawings! But it doesn't. Although I did enjoy being in denial for 9 months. ^_^

I completely agree with this. Only buy a tablet once you are ready. It's kind of a waste of money and time if your not ready. Like Kit said, it does not make anyone a better artist, it's simply a tool. Once your ready Wacom is positively amazing. I have a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet, it's a decent size and it works like a charm. I believe it was $100+ or so. If your having drawing issues, you can message me. I do redlines, and I'm helpful. c:

Very nice. That is the simpler version of what I have and would be great for a beginner.

I have the Pen tablet one. I wanted the bamboo fun. Buuuuut my mom grabbed the wrong one when they went Christmas shopping. hahaha . Oh well i still like mine. (when i use it xD) It came with suckey correl paint shop pro essentials 4 -.- that program freezes and you cant use it on my computer anymore. It wont even open up -.-

From what I know, no. It's just the size. It could be that there's less buttons on the main tablet or something? But not the quality of the tablet.
