Showing Age Limit?

  • I see where it's coming from, but I don't agree.
They would be useless and retired after they hit whatever age they'd set it at. No one would keep a dog that they can't do anything with other than look at; well, atleast I know I sure wouldn't.
It would definitly make everything with eventing on VP go down, IMO; or atleast the dogs that live over those ages.
Personally, I think it's fine how it is. *shrugs*
Dogs with longer lifespans show longer-if you want yours to be able to show until 25 years, go get a hyena or something. I don't think it's a huge deal.

  • I show dogs and mine is getting REALLY old :( he is my fav dog and he is only just now getting to regional....I agree we should have personal breeds not live that long.

Well I dont really agree that they shouldnt be able to be showed after a certain age because what if one of the regular breeds were to live longer then you couldnt show it ...... you would just have it sit there useless? because you can only breed a dog until like 11.5 years old.

I also think they should NOT make all the dogs die at the same age because in real life even there are different life expectentcys for different breeds so why not try to be as normal as possible right?!

  • You know what I'm actually hoping is going to happen? Well, I'm gonna tell you anyway xP

I'm hoping that when the new owners get around to having the time to "improve" the game that some events are actually more curtailed to the other stats, speed, strength, intell, endurance, depending on the event.. IE mushing is going to be more dependent on endurance than dock jumping. That the other stats always hold a second place to those necessary stats. Whereas an event such as assistance trials may be more focused on adaptability and loyalty, those same dogs may not be able to compete at something like tracking which may require less loyalty and more endurance to be able to stick with the scent trail.

As someone else said, Greyhounds should be among the best at racing, their speed should be the determination on that, not fame or hyper or courage or anything else, especially not to the point that dogs with lower speed stats beat them. Dogs should also not be able to win at every event there is just because their fame or whatever else.

I don't think there should be a set age restriction, however, I do think that after a certain age, dogs should start losing some of their stats. A 7 year old dog may be in their prime and will out run a 15 year old dog of the same breed, that's just how it goes. Dogs should not be able to dominate for 50 years, that's just not fair to other players and leaves them out of the competition to the point they don't care to enter any more.

  • Its not exactly the stats that bug me, though that would be a nice improvement as well. I also like the idea of the age lowering their showing potential. It would make the game a lot more realistic.

And, I never said all dogs should LIVE until the same age. I said they could be allowed to SHOW until the same age. Another site I play on, dogs can breed starting at age 2, and can show/breed until age 8 I think... just as an example.

In real life, taking agility as an example, there are different categories for dogs based on age. In agility there is the main group (Dogs ages 1 1/2 or 2 *depending on the organization* - 7 years are classified under this) after a dog reaches age seven, it is considered to be classified as a veteran. Perhaps VP could have different categories based on age like this... Separate dogs based on 10 year increments, and have a top dogs list FOR those individual age groups. That way the dogs living for a really long time will only be considered top dogs amongst others that can live as long as them.

Its the fact that you can show a really nice dog that only lives till 12, and it wont get any credit. You can show one of those trophypups for its 30 years, and have it get a 25% win and it will end up on the top dogs list with a huge amount of fame. A better dog with a 90% win rate has no chance to get on the list because it cant live long enough to be in so many events.

Perhaps the top dog's list should just be taken off the site, because it is way inaccurate ;P

And saying that dogs that cant show are useless, isnt true. I've held onto my dogs that are too old forever. They are international, I find pride in holding onto them *shrugs* Perhaps thats just me. I dont find a dog useless just because its show career has ended, I still keep it in my kennel as an accomplishment.
All good things must come to an end. All endings will begin new good things.
