Taking without asking

edited April 2010 in Vent
I HATE this.
My cousin has been here not even two days and I am ready to smack her. >.> (she's like 12)
I was gonna play sims with her yesterday, so she made her charatchers and then I made mine, then we started playing. Well I had my laptop in my lap - she didn't even ask but started pulling on the cord and yanking on the laptop. I was like "Um, if you want to be the one to pay my boyfriend $1500 because you break it, be my guest" so she stopped and instead of yanking on it, every 5 minutes she would say "can I play yet?" "can I play yet" so I finally let her play, so me and Jeffrey could hang out - me and him went to go get something to eat and then ONLY then did she get off my computer was when me and him went somewhere.
Then this morning I went and sat on the couch with her to watch TV, as soon as I sat down she went staraight to my room grabed my laptop charger and took my laptop out of it's case and brought in the loving room and I told her "you can ask before taking things" and all she did was smile and hook up the charger and turn the freaking game on.

What's worse is, I am not the one to say no. I am WAY too nice to my cousins and don't just take things that are mine away from them.
But, she tends to be the only one to do. I mean, isn't she a little to old to be acting that way! Even my 13 year old brother knows to ask before taking things.

  • You could try hiding it? At least you would avoid her taking it without asking, playing on it all day, and you having to take it back.

Other than that, I just suggest being more assertive. Instead of saying a question, be straight forward and attach a punishment; ex: "You need to ask me the next time you want to play with that, or you won't play with it the rest of your visit."
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
  • I do hide it, but she finds it every time...I even hid it in my suitcase.

And if she doesn't find/have my laptop she will mess with my ipod, straightener, or my Kirby. >.> I am VERY protective over my Kirby though.
  • Oh btw is Kirby like a hen or something?

He's a cockerel (rooster)
  • Can you put a password on your login? It really isn't good for her to be accessing the internet through your computer without so much as a by-your-leave :(

She went home today, I had a password and I told her it like 5 times but she never remembers it. However, me and my boyfriend went out tonight and my laptop was on my bed instead of by my purse where I put it - but I don't think she got very far as it was still in it's case when she usually leaves it out.
I find it quite rude, however - how she just takes my stuff.
And I told her to leave my lizard, Ajax alone last night because she kept trying to take him out so I told her it will stress him out and he is very jumpy, all she said was "Jeffrey had the cage top off and was petting him" UM! I told her that he is 18 - not twelve. I trust him more with Ajax because he owns Ajax too, not to mention Ajax doesn't like strangers.
BUT, every time I told her no to her playing on the computer she would say "I'm gonna play with Kirby" or "I am gonna play with the lizard" first off, they aren't toys and second you need to ask. The only way to stop her from going near them is "If Kirby poops on my floor your cleaning it up" orrr "If Ajax escapes I'm going to hurt you and you will be paying me $65" /mini rant xD

Not only that, but she kept me up the pass TWO nights because she wouldn't go to bed - and all she did was toss and turn all night, and if I wake up in the middle of the night it's hard to go back to sleep because my knees ache or my legs get restless.
  • wow, id go insane in your situations lava 0.0 when my niece reaches for sumthing ill lightly swat her hand and be like "kyra. we ask before we grab things" and she'll be like "aunt dani can i have (insert object here)" and then ill tel lher yes and give it to her.

took me about three months to teach her this but shes finally got it down. maybe you could try sumthing like that?
