Hearing aids /=

edited April 2010 in Vent
When I was in third grade, I tripped over my own two feet during class and slammed my left ear into the corner of the table. Which then triggered the school nurse to give me a hearing test, which my left ear failed. It turns out I'm almost completely deaf in my left ear. I can hear sounds, yes, but they're muffled sounds.
But, it turns out that my clumsiness didn't cause my deafness. I had an ear infection that was diagnosed as an upper ear infection [like where you put the q-tip], but it ended up being in the middle ear. All that fun jazz and such ;D
Well, I got my hearing aid back in 3rd grade, and everyone was supportive. They knew what had happened, etc.
I move down south, and wearing it in fourth grade, everyone gave me hell. So I stopped wearing it. Now, in my freshman year, I've been getting more and more vertigo spells. To the point where I can barely walk. That one ear sets me so off balance, that back in Ohio when I first got it, I wouldn't be able to stand up for more than five minutes.

I don't want to have to wear it again, but the headaches and the vertigo is starting to kill me /= I just don't want everyone to give me hell again, because I've been in school with the majority in my class since I moved down here. So, tonight I'm picking up some more batteries for it, since I'm almost out, I need to go find my battery power indicator, etc.

-sigh-
Cookies to all that read.

  • Awww, how horrible that anyone would pick on you. I'm from the South, and I don't know what it is about my generation that people seem to have no call for manners at all. I once saw a young man in a business suit knock an older lady over in his haste to get into a coffee shop before her. You'll be okay, and if anyone gives you a hard time, thank them for being so kind and understanding ;)

  • One of my best friends has pretty severely inhibited hearing and has to use a hearing aid, so I'm pretty defensive about things like that. There's no reason for people to get all up in your Kool Aid when you have enough on your plate as is lol.

  • Ohh. You lost your hearing due top a middle ear infection... Thats kinda scaring the crap outta me. I have 2 double ear infections and I may have ruptured my ear drums but they cant tell because of the infection im suppose to get my hearing back fine.. And its starting to come. I doidn't know that you could lose your hearing from that so im kinda surprised.
  • Kids these days. Seriously, if anyone makes fun of you for it punch them in the face. Nah, Im just kidding. Dont do that because you'd probably get in trouble. But I would. Thats just me. You cant help that you have to wear one, and anyone who makes fun of you for it should be hung upsidedown from a flagpole in their underwear for the whole school to see :) You have nothing to be embarrassed about. I think its pretty cool. Cause then when someone you dont like wont shut up, you can just turn off your ear. At least thats what i told my friend whos got a hearing aid when we were little xD

Chances are you'll get your hearing back. Mine was all the way in the middle of my ear, and it was misdiagnosed. You know you have them, so you're fine. ^.^

• That's horrible. No one has any manners anymore. You should tell them that's it's just not right to make fun of someone with a disability. Actually, if you brought it up to the school's principal or a teacher, they should do something about it.

If you have long hair, and you're worried about it still, you might be able to hide it by wearing you hair down.
My school suspended me off of a few girls who do questionable things. During school hours. And they haven't done anything about it since I moved down here.

And I do have long hair, but its not always down. I'm just tired of being dizzy all the time.

  • Eh. *flails hands* There is no reason for you to be uncomfortable or to change your habits because a bunch of children can't behave appropriately. There's nothing wrong with a hearing aid, plenty of people wearing contacts and glasses, aren't there?
