Tight money D

edited April 2010 in Vent
I hate being young and not being able to get a job. And no one goes out anymore, and I don't like babysitting for my aunt/uncle. And I would like to save up money for a nice laptop, and nice clothes [I inherited some A&F clothes from a friend, though o;], and my Nook. I want my Nook so badly D< Mom always says to enjoy it, but how can I when I buy most of what I want? I saved up for 3 years to buy my Nintendo DS, because my parents didn't have the money. I saved up all of Christmas/Birthday/Other holiday money for a year or so to buy clothes and shoes that fit me properly. I save up my money to buy little things when I go shopping for my parents/boyfriend. And I can't do that if I don't have any money ;-;

You have a home and food and you go to school and get a free education. You have BOTH of your parents that love you, you have your friends. Sure, it's nice to have nice things, but as someone that has never had nice things just because we can't afford them, you learn to appreciate what you do have. I'm not calling you unappreciative, you just have to look at it in a more optimistic way, because at least you have what you need to live. By 'nice' I'm assuming you mean name brand? I set myself loose on a shopping spree at Walmart, yes, Walmart and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Spent $40 and got two pairs of shorts, 4 shirts, a new bra and a bathing suit. You gotta learn to be frugle. And jobs come soon enough, enjoy being a kid while you can.

Oh, I know. I know things could be much worse. Yes, I mean name brand, and at the same time, I don't mean name brand. I don't like Walmart/Target clothing, I never really have. And they fit me funny o.o It'll just be nice to be able to say, "I don't depend on my parents more than I need to. I'm able to support myself as a 15/16 year old." And I mean, I know it's not fun. You go to school for six hours, then go straight to work until 8 or 9, correct? Then go and do homework, if you haven't already finished it. I mean, I know it's rough. And I do enjoy being a kid. I just enjoy that proud feeling of 'I bought this myself', and I appreciate my things more when I get them myself. Thats all ;-;

 • It's funny you say that, because when you actually have your own money, you don't want to spend it. xDD I almost threw up today buying an $18 bag of bedding for my hamster.

Jesus o.o Can't you use shredded paper or something? Save all of your empty cardboard toilet rolls and paper towel rolls, and shread them?
And, like, I'll buy things that my parents can't afford, my jeans and things, and I'll buy things for fun, like those SoBe's I got one of the times I was at your place. Or, my friend April's birthday was last Thursday, and I would've liked to get her something, but I was broke ;-;

 • Ebay/Craigslist is your friend. XD
I've been using ebay for about 3 months and have earned probably close to $400.
I have been searching for a job for about a year, I got a job interview at Journey's but of course, they never called back.
I like to have money on me at all times just in case of emergencies or I see something I want - however, I'm an impulsive buyer. XD
But, most of my money goes towards my pets, and when holidays come around then it goes towards family/boyfriend.
Recently, I went on a job hunting spree and applied to about 15 places.

If I can find things to sell xD There's probably a lot of things in my room. Collect old books I don't need anymore, etc. Give them to a used book store for money, there's a clothing store that buys clothes from you [similar to GoodWill], etc. If I can find good things to sell though, it'll be nice ;D

 • Money. Bleh. Everyone is so obsessed with it. Sometimes I wish we could just trade our stuff. Life would be so much easier. But then again, that would come with its own set of problems too.

 • I believe the economy should build itself on monopoly money - the only bad thing about that is that everything would get bought quickly.
 • Ahahaha xD Cyvers, trade would send us to hell in a handbasket but it would kinda make things easier.. Walk into Belk, "I'd like to trade my brother for that prom dress over there.." I wonder how well that'd go over with my parents.

Alva, I have never once played Monopoly. It gets too confusing and too much like real life ._.
This is so true!
I've passed up so many things I would have gotten if my mom had paid for it.
