Food.

I need yummy food suggesitons! I am such a picky eater. But, I really need to start eating healthier. I hate:

*All meat and poultry accept ham and chicken tenders
*Most cooked vegetables (I don't mind them raw)
*Most soups and stew. (Because most of it contains the above stuff!)
*Various other stuff

I love:
*Fruit and veggis (raw)
*Almost any pasta dishes
*Eggs
*Ham
*Various other stuff

I also love chocolate, cookies, ice cream, brownies, all that. I nreally want to be able to have some of that, in a healther form, if that's possible? Are there any healthy desserts besides fruit?

I'm looking for yummy, yet healthy recipies. Any suggestions would be wonderful! Thanks. :D

  • Healthy desserts? Make sure they don't contain splenda or any artificial sweetener. Many contain a chemical called aspartame, as do many processed foods and drinks. This chemical can cause mild to severe side effects, but many people don't actually link their symptoms with the aspartame. (Nobody really likes to think that their favorite food/drink is poisoning them.) Diet sodas, diet drinks, etc. almost always contain aspartame, so be careful with those.

- You can substitute whole eggs with egg whites.
- Don't use whole milk; instead use 1%, 2%, skim, or soy.*
- You can usually get away with taking 1/2 the butter out of any recipe, but make sure it works before you serve it to a group of your friends.
- Carob is a substitute for chocolate. If you don't like the taste of carob, you can use dark chocolate, but still be very cautious of how much you eat.
- Apple sauce can also be placed in cakes. It doesn't usually alter the flavor.
- Tofu can be used to create shakes, substitute for eggs, etc.*

* Soy milk and sometimes tofu is sometimes made with genetically or chemically altered/engineered soy beans. This is dangerous to your health, so if you choose soy milk or tofu, find one that states if the soybeans are natural or not.

A nice little dessert would be a banana spice cake. Use ramekins so you have small, individual cakes. I have a recipe for making it all by scratch, if you'd like to I can get it.

Otherwise, buy a spice cake mix. Smash about 2-5 bananas until they form a gooey substance. Add them into the mix, and prepare it like you would any other cake. Use only egg whites, use a good oil, and of course bake them in ramekins. They make great little desserts, gifts, or really anything else.

For pastas, use pastas made from vegetables, brown rice, or whole wheat. Avoid using thick, cheesy sauces. They contain a lot of fat, so if you eat them often, it's not a very good thing.

A really nice sauce I made for pasta is;

3-4 fresh roma tomatoes, diced
8-12 oz of tomato sauce, or blend 4-6 tomatoes up
Jalapeno peppers, as many to your taste, chopped fine
1/2 cup of chopped onions
1 tsp of cayenne pepper
1 tsp of garlic powder
1 tsp of spanish paprika
1 tbsp of fresh garlic or 2 cloves, crushed and diced
1 or 2 tbsp of lemon juice
1 tsp of lime juice
1 tbsp of cilantro (fresh if you can), add more to your liking
1/4 cup of celery (optional - I don't put it in)

Add water to thin it out, or add cornstarch to thicken it up.
Add additional cayenne powder, garlic powder, and paprika for more spice. This would be a trial by error thing.
You can add more peppers if you like it spicy - good ones would be red peppers, chili peppers, and ghost chili peppers.

It's a nice, quick Mexican-style sauce. Fresh ingredients work best, and as a nice tidbit - tomatoes only get better the longer they cook. Other veggies are best steamed or raw, as they otherwise lose their nutrients.

----

Snacks;

Peanut butter logs. Classic, but I hate it. It's a celery stick with peanut butter on top. I'd use freshly ground peanut butter, which you can get from places like Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and The Fresh Market.

Any fruit, but be weary of fruits high in sugar. Bananas are tasty, but they're full of sugar.

Non-starchy veggies also make a good snack. You can eat starchy veggies, just sparingly. You can add a little bit of spices to mix it up, for example I like putting garlic powder on many of them. You can get bags of them frozen, but beware of the cheese sauces and increased sodium.

Roasted cauliflower. Place the head on a cookie sheet. Add your favorite seasonings to the top, pour a little bit of olive oil on it's top, and bake for 20-45 minutes.

Many nuts are really good, especially if you're looking to build muscle. Look for unsalted if you can. Sunflower seeds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pecans are all good. You can also use them as a topping to any salad, ice cream, dessert, and to even mix with rice or chicken!

----

If you can, I really do recommend that you visit a fresh, healthy food store. Trader Joes is a really good one, and they have a ton of organic, gluten free, wheat, healthy foods. Most health food stores have random recipes available, and some of them are pretty good.

Anyhow, I hope this helps you. :P I have a whole bunch of recipes ranging from breakfasts to dinners, and I can always share them with you. ^^

Good luck! :)

  • Flaxseed is also a good alternative to butter or oil.
  • Anastasia knows what she's talkin 'bout.
"war cry" presas canarios, aryan molossus, and cao.
  • I like melting chocolate and dipping strawberries in it, then put them the fridge so the chocolate can harden. Its really good. You can also use other types of fruit like bananas. I use dark chocolate because its healthier but any kind of chocolate can be used
