Horse Back Riding

I started taking lessons again a few months ago and I loved it. But sadly, I had to stop because we can't afford to pay for it. (My dad just had surgery and will be out of work for a few months.) I was planning on starting again this summer but that's so long to wait. I really miss it.:(

BUT.......!

A friend of my parents' owns a horse which she boards at the farm which I took lessons at. And I asked if I could help her take care of him or something. I was also hoping she'd let me ride. But her horse is an entergetic, stubborn ex-racehorse and she said spring is not his "most cooperative" time of year. Which is okay, a little dissapointing but I'd rather not ride than take on a horse I can't handle. Okay off topic. Anyways........

She said she'd LOVE!!! (no joke that's exactly how she wrote it in her e-mail,) to have me help. So sometime I'm hopefully going to help her take care of him. It's not nearly as good as riding but at least I'll be able to learn more about horses and spend more time with them.

BUT........!

The best part is she said that possibly I could work at the barn for my lessons! Which would be awesome. Because not only would I get lessons, but I'd get to spend even more time at the barn with the horses.

BUT..........!

I'll admit I'm not that experienced with horses. I am a pretty good rider and I can do basic horse care and stuff but I've only been at this barn for a few months. And I am small and not very strong when it comes to physical work. So I may be limited in the kinds of areas I can work in.

BUT..........!
(OK sorry about all the BUT.......!s.)

I am hoping that if I can work at the barn I will learn more and gradually work my way up to actually being with the horses more.

Anyways, the point of all this is that I really hope the owner can find something I can do and that my parents will agree to drive me there. And I really hope that it doesn't take her forever to come up with something. So.....has anoyone else every worked in a stable to pay for lessons/boarding/leasing? If so what kind of work did you do and do you have suggestions for me?

Thanks!!! :D
