You don't need photoshop to have awesome photos. Any program that allows for contrast, brightness, sharpness, etc. is good. Im sure gimp (which is free) offers those features. This is for at least beginners.

Did you want critiques as well? I'm just starting out with photography myself but I think I could have some helpful input?

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/893/ ... 877294.jpg -that one doesn't seem like its focused enough. The blur shouldn't really be there. and I actually think it would have been better if you did a traditional rectangle shape with a border than with rounded corners.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/1504 ... 755612.jpg -The grass and jeans are a little harsh on the eyes and seem like they could use more of a contrast between the two.

http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/4210/1 ... 856131.jpg -Im liking the feel of it with the color toned down

http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/8963/1 ... 524857.jpg -I think you need to play more with this one. I wonder what a colored version would look like? It all seems to blend in together and it seems like it needs more contrast. Colors can do that if you can't get more of a value range in black and white I think. Maybe try it without the white border on it too.

Anyways, just my opinions. Some I didnt comment on because I couldn't place my finger on exactly on what the picture may need or not need. *shrugs*

I like how you tried variations and different settings. For me it takes many many many pictures to get something decent (usually get well over 100) and sometimes I still dont get something I think is satisfactory.

Keep at it for sure! ^-^
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3304 ... 368689.jpg - this one needs to be toned down a bit. It's too sharp which makes the colors stand out too much/look over-edited. That's an effect that happens a lot outside especially. When plants are overdone, they look off, which I think its the problem with this one, so maybe soften the focus a little

I know mine turn out like that when I adjust them to make them look too sharp, so Im guessing thats the problem here.

You're other photos look nice by the way =D Nice to see another photographer on here.
All good things must come to an end. All endings will begin new good things.
