Terrible news!!! D:

So I came home from a sleepover this morning this morning... I went to check up on Motzart(my rat) and give him his anti-diarrhea medicine. He looked like he was sleeping, so I tried to wake him up. He's a hard sleeper so I picked him up and wasn't surprised when he didn't automatically respond, but he wasn't breathing. I about died. I put him back in his bed and made mom run up there and see if he really was dead. She confirmed and I lost it. It's only been a month but he was like a puppy dog. He was so so sweet. I got a video of him about 15 hours before he died. He was sooo tired the day before he died... he fell asleep upside down on my lap(and he WAS breathing then...). I'm so sorry for anyone who I did owe services to. Buffy, your banner will get done. Simmy, I'm so sorry I couldn't finish that dog. Please keep the two milly in there for him, and pm me if you want me to finish him.
I really just need time to grieve. I don't feel like doing anything. I lost a cat about two months ago and can't take all this. I may or may not be on vp alot. I'm sooo sorry again to anyone who won't get thier services completed.
Thanks,
Pepper

 • I'm actually more at peace with it now. I was sitting in my room with the door locked all yesterday, but now I realise how slow he was. He woulda died either way, and I just made the last days of his life better than petco would have. And I have every intent on going to petco and rescuing another rat today. They just got them in. I know most say petco is cruel and not to buy from them, but this one does get all thier animals from breeders(not small animal and reptile mills), and keeps them in waay better condition. I have to drive an hour to get there but it'll be worth it for a healthy rat.

 • Didn't you say you saved him from being snake food?
It's always suggested you never "rescue" rats like that. And although you think you're doing something helpful and nice for the rat, another one's just going to get sent in to feed the snake instead. So really, you're not really rescuing anything. And you end up with a sick or badly bred pet... D;

*has been reading up on rat care*

But it's also awesome that you did make his last days so much better than they would've been <3 That's always nice to think about! Still, I an truly sorry for the loss. It's always exciting to get a new pet.. but if they die right away, it's awfully devastating.

Make sure to get a healthy rat next time from a good place! :) Good luck!
 • Ahww Im sorry that happened to you. Hope you feel better and get a nice, new healthy rat :]

 • I've gotten this new one home and there's an immense difference in the physical traits and behaviors! Mozie slept when I first got him home... This one ran around and smelled around and went great! He is an albino rat, red eyes and all. I do want to name him after a vampire in twilight.. One with red eyes, so not Edward, Jasper, or Emmet. Any name suggestions are reatly appreciated.

 • Aww I'm sorry for your rattie but I hope your next one(s) are healthier.

I don't really understand rescuing rats from what would have originally been snake food as that isn't really cruelty, but buying from petstores keeping them in poor condition is more like rescuing, imo.

 • So sorry about your rat Pepper D;

I'd recommend you don't get the next one from Petco. It's a chain and it keeps its pets in terrible conditions. Every single Petco I've ever been to keeps multiple rats, hamsters, mice, and other animals in tiny, dirty cages with very little food and water. Even if they SAY they get them from breeders, they DON'T. Trust me. You're only going to end up being hurt even more when this one dies in a month, too.

And if you can, find one that isn't white with red eyes. Because the ones that are white with red eyes are generally extremely inbred and unhealthy to start with, and have a much shorter lifespan.

 • I wish I had the albino lifespan info before.
He's already home and settled now. He's actually pretty sweet. ^.^ I'm going to petSMART tomorrow with my giftcard. He'll be getting all kinds of new stuff.

 • Sorry for your loss. We've had several rats in the past.. the first two came from a project in school, but we had to have more xD

We haven't had one for about a year though.

And, can't really use 'rescuing' when talking about pet stores... at all. You're just giving them money so they keep animals in stock that they won't care for :3 Not to mention where they came from in the first place.

But no worries, I got my first bunny because some guy said he was gonna feed the rabbits to snakes >.> Plus I wanted to join 4H, then it turns out I got a Dutch rabbit, but one with horrid markings xD Only thing with her is, she's still healthy 7 years later :D I learned though.. and bought my next rabbit directly from a breeder xD

Good luck with the new rat =D

 • From what i've seen in my area, PetSmart is alot better about animal conditions than PetCo, unless you're talking about cats >.< but then again they're kept just the same as they are in the animal shelters so i shouldn't be complaining, i just hate small glass cages of kitties. (enough of the kittie rant)

I'm glad you got a new rattie, for a name, i have no clue... i think you should name it Benjamin, but that's just me =P
