I was searching through my local craigslist adds this morning (we've been looking to buy a new stock-trailer.) and came across the most heartbreaking picture of a 20+ year old, unregistered, appy mare. This horse was just skin and bones, her entire pelvic structure and ribcage stranding out clearly. The seller was trying to dump her and her unregistered weanling filly for 400 bucks each. I was so aghast at the picture I immediately wrote the seller to see if they where still available. After some questioning it turns out that the mare hadn't been wormed, trimmed, vetted, or vaccinated in YEARS. I told her, as politely as possible, that I'd give her 200 dollars for the mare and get her totally UTD on everything and back into good condition. I explained she'd have a great home and top-notch care for the rest of her life. Seller wouldn't bend on the price (which was ridiculous. They GIVE horses like that away at our local auction.). She insisted in sucking every dime she could out of the poor old girl who'd already given her so much. For shame.<br><br>I'm so mad I could spit. Some people just shouldn't own animals.

    That's absolutley awful. Poor horse. Not only that, but someone who knows nothing about the condition horses should be in could come along and go "oh, cheap horse, I'll buy," and treat it even more poorly.
