Halloween isn't evil. Its when the dead come back to roam the Earth with their loved ones, and that's where the pumpkin carving idea came from, though it was originally a candle.
If my history [and religion, sorry I know we can't bring that into it..] is wrong, lets not go into that.

I personally love Halloween.
Its my favorite holiday, along with Christmas, because of the histories behind those two holidays, and the seasons they're in.

Some find that as "evil"

At my church we have a fall festival on Halloween, we carve pumpkins, give out candy, we have a cookout, and it's a safe place for the community to come! But, I have to agree with Reina - to an extent, trick -o - treating has gotten so bad that people have soiled the candy, I mean honestly only a sick minded freak would do that. It's mind boggling as to why people ruin the fun out of Halloween.

I know, and its understandable. Haha.

My grandmothers church up in Ohio does the same thing.

And yes, I know people put things in the candy. And its normally the messed up people that should be in jail for life because they're not right in the head.

I would figure they would have better things to do. xD
Thta's why I am glad I live in a small town where everyone knows each other - but you can never be too safe.

White witches are =D other than out of narnia xD In the UK, where I live, not many people actually go trick or treating.. Ive been with my friend a couple of times, and her Dad was always with us.. But usually WE are the trickers.. we took a giant inflatable hammer with us xD Only twice have we had trick or treaters at the door.. one time they got scared and ran off, and the other time it was these drunk 17yr olds.. we didnt answer the door.. and we got egged.. Funny thing was, it was raining that night  Near where I live, there is this farm (obviously Im not going to say the name) and basically you pay for a ticket, and there is about 5 main rides ( 2 new ones this year) Creepy cottage, Maize of screams & haunted hayride <-- thats the worse, you sit in a trailer behind a tractor, and they drive you through these woods.. all these actors jump out at you.. with chainsaws xD or you go to the fright night at the local (well.. hour away) theme park...

Anyway, coming back to the vent, and away from my rabbiting (sorry about that =3) Halloween is meant to be the day where the border between this world and the other world was most thin, allowing good and bad spirits to pass through. In scotland, this was represented by men dressing up in white, black and grey.(where costumes came from) Although, originally it was in May, before All Saints Day. It was believed that the dead would become alive on the evening, so people would leave food offerings for their relatives (treat) and in Ireland, for the Faries, although then, they were believed to be wicked and dangerous. (Trick)

My fingers are aching now xD

 • If you are celebrating Halloween to celebrate evil, then yes, it's evil for YOU. Most of us celebrate it for the joy of having fun trick or treating with our families. My auntie and uncle and cousins and friends and granparents all go trick or treating with us in my neighborhood. None of us want to praise the evil, but make memories of being together. I never get to see any of my family that comes on Halloween, because they live in far country and no one gives out candy there. xD

It started off resembling a Celtic harvest festival called Samhain, which was to celebrate the end of the 'light' half of the year and the 'dark' half, and considered the Celtic New Year. Halloween also has bases from Latin America's Day of the Dead, which is to honor deceased family members.

Aside from the history and origin of the holiday, lots of people just look at it as a fun day to be something you're not without judgement and get free candy. If you don't celebrate it, don't get your panties in a bunch about people that do.

 • well..I was going to reply with my opinion, but I don't think I could keep some things unsaid. :/ but its not about evil in any such way unless you make it. and Oaters, I'm glad you said that. :3
I was going to say something to that effect, but probably with a lot more emotion.
btw-I celebrate it as Samhain. :3

It's just a holiday, damnit! Why can't we just have fun?! If you don't celebrate it, good for you! Thats YOUR decision! Don't get all upset and huffy and whatever. This entire vent is like someone saying you shouldn't celebrate Christmas, that your choice to not celebrate Christmas is the right way.

Kindly look up the roots behind Halloween before you go around criting people who celebrate Halloween and may or may not be witches ;] You never know who you're offending.

This. ^
I don't see why anyone cares if Reina likes Halloween or not, that's her choice - it's just a holiday, she's not taking the fun out of your enjoyment. xD

However, this is a forum and anyone is aloud to post on a thread - unless an mod where to state otherwise.
 • Huh? I wasn't saying she was taking the fun out of my enjoyment. Reina is one of my best friends. :P I just don't think people should get upset over little things like this.. it's just going to cause a huge problem and then the post will get locked or something. :)

Yes, funny.

I don't have a problem with the reason Halloween was created! In fact, it seems more respectful than other celebrations. Like I said to Pepper via PM, my original post was about how weird and contradictory it has become. I bet 90% of people who "celebrate" (a.k.a. trick or treat, give out candy, even acknowledge it basically) don't have any part in Wiccan or even know the origins of Halloween. Therefore, it's just another day to make fun out of dressing up like a corpse, dead guy, ghost, or whatever else.

I always make controversial topics on this forum. Brings a little "life" to the forum.
