I had the same problem, except with no crust. Dx
I was told on a forum that it has to do with a bacterial infection that gets into their respiratory tract and goes to their eyes, or she could have photo-kerato-conjunctivitis.
Could you provide pictures?
  • I'm on my moms labtop because mines broken but I could try?
    2dj8avm.jpg
  • Also, regular vets do not treat exotics contact a herp vet.

Try soaking him/her in warm bath water, what is your husbandry like, diet?
  • Husbandry(?) sorry cant remember that word xD but his diet consists of romaine lettuce, a green bean, a cherry tomatoe, and a slice of apple all topped with minerals.

  • Like what size/gallon tank/cage do you keep him in, what type of bedding do you use, UVB light, etc.

Also, how old and how big is he?
  • Nova is 19inches in length, is in a 29gal tank ( I know it's small but we are currently building hima custom one that will last throughout his life), The floor of his cage is a thin, carpetlike material, kind of like minigolf course turf, his UVB bulbs are 75 watt for daytime light, and 50 watt for nighttime light, He also has this hammock at the top of the vivarium that he sleeps in everynight.

I rescued him in May, He was just turning into a juvenile from a hatchling then, and is still in the juvenile phase.

  • Okay, as long as he gets an upgrade. xDI keep my 10-12 inch collared in a 55 gallon.
Do you have any plants or hides in there with him?
He might just be in a post-shed and a warm bath would help.
But, if he doesn't open them up soon I would recommend calling a herp vet, I have to force feed my lizard a special kind of food/medication 4-6 times a day, and it takes up to 30 minutes for her to finish only 3 cc of it. Because she is "blind" she can not eat live food because she can't see it. :/

-EDIT-
Also, how often does he get water?
  • Ouch that's gotta be tough, He has 2 vines on suctions cups, a log laying diagonally, and I mist him twice a day, once in the morning and in late afternoon, he also gets his bowl refilled twice a day.

  • Yeah, especially when she thinks she can fly and decides jumping out of my hand across the room. xD
But, that's the price when having pets, and this experience has developed my knowledge of reptiles even further.
  • Yah, thats good I'm uploading a pic now for you

  • Do you have a UVB bulb? I seen where you said the wattage but a UVB bulb is either a coiled bulb or a long tube. They do not have night time or day time UVB bulbs. You probably have a UVA bulb. They NEED this or they can't digest the food you are feeding. It provides D3. You also need a higher wattage heat lamp.
Are you giving calcium and vitamins on your Igs salad?
You also need a thing of water in there at all times. Was just curious since it said you sprayed him and didn't mention of a big water source. I am using a plastic shoe box I bought at Big Lots.
Oh my there is so much more.
Pics of my water dragons enclosure:
<img src="http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/zoeceleste/100_0351.jpg"; alt="http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a216/zoeceleste/100_0351.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
The big tub in front is his food box. Thats where he gets to eat his food.

  • The bulbs are neither coiled nor long tubes. They're oval-like. I'm giving Nova a powdery substance that says it has all the minerals he needs which I sprinkle on top of his salad. I try to keep his waterdish full at all times and I will refill it when its cloudy, dirty, soiled, etc. Also he gets his water dish filled in the morning and once before night.

Edit---

I put a Thread up on the Pets Animals Photos Stories Topic

  • So you use an MVB bulb?
Have you given him a warm bath?
  • He's getting one in a few minutes.

  • Aww. That's sad. Try some turtle eye drops, then, search Reptile Exotic Vets (insert your city, state here).
