What?

This I kinda lame, but it's bothering me so I've gotta vent about it.

So, my best friend has a couple pets. Their cat had an unexpected litter about 5 years ago. They spayed her, and gave most of the kittens away to friends, keeping one. They now have two cats (the mom and baby) and a dog.

Now, my friend keeps saying they're getting a bird. When ever I ask when they're getting it, she says "when we put our cats down." She's been saying this for like 6 months now. Origanaly it was because they had some sort of bladder thing and kept going to the bathroom all over. I guess that's understandable. If they're sick and it can't be cured, and they're destroying the house, OK.

Now she says they don't do it very much at all anymore, but they're still planning on putting them down. Why, I asked? Her answer: "Because my parents are afraid they'll destroy the living room." I'm like, OK, what?

I asked her, "Why don't you jsut give them to a shelter if you have to get rid of them?" She said "Because no one will want fat cats with matted fur." Yes, it's true, her cat's are overweight, and one of them has a big spot of matted fur on her back. But still, groom her, put them on a diet, it's not that hard. They really are nice cats and they don't deserve to die for no good reason.

Then, I heard her ask her mom if they could get a kitten once they put their cats down. I'm like, really?! You let your cat's get overweight with matted fur, and now rather then trying to help them so you want to throw them away and replace them with a cute little kitten, which you'll probably let the same thing happen to?!

And she talks about it like she's not even sad they might put them down, not even sad cats they've had for over 5 years are probably going to die.

Rant over.

 • That's stupid.
If I knew her, I would be giving her a piece of my mind.
Seriously if you get bored with your pets, then you do not deserve them.
An animal shelter will be glad to fix up the cats, my cat is fat. That doesn't mean I don't want him.
Some cats just have a slow matabalism.
I have personally always have had an attachment to big fluffy cats.

She doesn't deserve another kitten, all she most likely wants it for is becuase it is cute. An animal is a life not a toy.
 • I know, but she's my best friend, I could never do that. And, she has suggested getting them fixed up to her parents before, but they just said "Why bother, they're going to die anyways."

 • Even if it was my best friend I would still say something. XD
I perfer animals over people becuase of this exact reason, poor kittehs. :(
I don't see how anyone can say that about thier animals when there are people out there who's pets just died and are suffering.
What if they had a special needs animal, would they let just sit there in pain?
My dog has several issues, I have to spend hours on end making sure she is comfortable, and they can't even groom thier pets.
 • Yeah, I know, I feel really bad and I have said somethings to her. Actually, just yesterday she wanted to give her a bath to get rid of the matted fur (You can't brush it out) But we couldn't because the cat didn't have a collar and there would be no way to hold on to her with out getting scratched to death.

 • You shouldn't given a cat a bath. ;D
If you plan on that, you have to start asap or when they get older they will not be happy.
I have come across only one cat that will take baths, but that is becuase my cousin spoiled her and the cat was weird.
Most cats know how to keep themselves clean unlike dogs, my cats never get fleas and I have never bathed them.
If the mat in the fur is that bad, then I would suggest cutting it out, take it to the groomers. And buy a brush at a local pet store and kepp it groomed.
 • The matted fur is like rock solid. It's beyond brushing. And her cat's so overweight she can't reach that far back to clean herself. Bathing her is really the only way to get rid of it.

 • That's why it should be taken to a groomer. ;)
People really need to learn to take care of thier animals.
