9/11 Essay

I just found this...
I wrote it for school a while ago, the account of 9/11 from my 10-year-old-self's eyes.
Feel free to critique the actual writing,
but I more just wanted to see if anyone else remembers
where they were or what their initial thoughts were.

There I sat, seven years old, on the familiar blue floor of my fifth grade classroom at xxxxxxx Elementary School. Mrs. Smith was writing the cursive alphabet as a matter of interest, not so much curriculum. My mind wandered aimlessly down winding roads which I traced on the reddish-brown pattern on the faded carpet. “What’s for dinner? Who is Lauren? Where is my lunchbox?â€

 • Nice essay. I remember 9/11. Woulda been about 6 years old. When we heard about it I'd been home and Mom and I were looking for our dog who'd run away for like the 5th time. As we were going through the neighborhood, one of our friends came out and were like "Did you see the TV? The Twin Towers were bombed." Mom was horrified. I had no clue what any of it meant, but she explained it to me. As a younger kid, you'd never know or expect the evil that can happen. That's a sad day that will always be remembered.

 • this essay is astounding. it really captures the confusion that a lot of children had during that time.

i was 10 at the time myself and i had no clue what a terrorist was. i had the general idea, but never really knew how bad they could be.
i knew what the twin towers were too, but never realized how bad it would hurt the world when something bad had happened to them.

i love how you interpreted your feelings and thoughts throughout the whole thing, that's what makes it a great essay. it's very nice.
well done, kudos.
____________________________

During the time that it happened, i was sitting in my social studies class.
the principal came over the intercom and ordered all the teachers to turn on the news. the teacher did as he was told and we all watched in horror. we could tell it was a disaster, a catastrophe, but what had actually happened didn't really hit us until it was explained what had happened.

It was horrible. I remember being so confused, sad, and angry at the same time.
Thanks, I was really glad I still had such vivid memories.
I wanted the essay to seem raw and full of emotion.
You watched it in school?!?
Good gracious.
That could be really controversial in my area.
Our schools tend to be parent run.
If you don't do what the parents want,
You are chased by an angry mob of soccer-moms in mini-vans.
xD
But thanks for the comments, I'm glad you saw what I was trying to portray.

 • I remember 9/11 I was in 7th grade history class and we stayed in the same classes throughout the day, watching the news over and over again. It was so upsetting. I knew what was happening and a lot of the kids were upset but not anywhere near confused. Some were crying just because they knew how many people had lost their lives and it was just depressing to think of all the people who lost family in that.
