Doggy Training Advice?

OK, dog trainer people, look here. :D

My 5 year old lab, Dixie has some odd social problems.

We got her from a shelter, so we think her previous owners did not socialize her well. :?

First things first. We have parties a lot. When people come over, Dixie's fine with it. She runs up to them with her ball and asks them to throw it, and lets them pet her and everything.

But when we go out with her, like for a walk, or take her to the pet shop or vet or something she gets all nervous. When we walk her she has trouble leaving the yard and pulls all the way through the walk trying to get back to the house. When we take her somewhere and people try to pet her, she gets all nervous.

And her biggest problem? Other dogs. She's fine with Molly, our other lab, but other dogs, no. We usaully see them at our family's camp, which isn't either of the dogs territory. We don't keep her on a tight leash, so she doesn't feel trapped or cornered, but when a dog tryes to sniff her, she growls, or snaps at them. It's mainly with the other dominat dogs, because she wan'ts to be the leader of her doggy friends.

It get's really annyoing to have to worry about her when we go out to camp, or just for a walk. :x

Advice?

 • for one-don't let her get dominant over anyone or anything. period. she has to be the lowest in the heirarchy or she won't obey anyone other than the one higher than her, or anyone in general.
also-make sure she has a muzzle on, makes it safer.
as for the socialization with people outside of your house or yard-try to have her meet people that she already knows for awhile and then just merge others in slowly, again-a muzzle should probably be used just in case.

 • Thanks, she is very obedient, and she knows we're in charge, I don't think she'd hurt a person, but could hurt another dog. She'd never just randomly attack a dog, but if a dog starts fighting with her she will fight back.

I am actually starting to think that it's more that she's nervous than she's trying to be dominat, beacuse she never growls at small dogs.
