Brand New HP Laptop -- with vista.

edited July 2009 in General Discussion
So, I ordered myself a brand new HP laptop with Windows Vista. I've been fiddling with it all day and I just cannot get the internet to work -- has anyone else had this problem with hp and/or vista? I've never had either before so this is all new to me, but I'm getting really angry that I can't find a way to fix the internet. I've been googling solutions all day. :[

 • The internet works on my two desktops and old laptops, I just can't configure it to work on the new one. :[

All the old computers have XP, but the stupid new one has Vista. I don't know if it's even vista causing the problem. D;

 • >.> I have a HP Pavilion dv5 with vista and have absolutley no problems with it! i love it!

are you trying to connect to wireless or cable?

we only had issues with connecting my laptop to the family network.. and printers.. but that was it!
 • I'm trying to connect it to my already exsisting wireless network, and it says it's connected, but the only page it'll load is google & yahoo. It'll search them, too, but when you go to click one of the links like "virtualpups.com" it pretends like it's gonna load and then minutes and minutes later it still hasn't loaded.

So idk, maybe the internet does work, just not all the way?

It's the weirdest problem I've ever had with internet connections -- usually it all works or none of it works. :[

 • I can't possibly be too far away from the router -- this laptop is connected to the internet just fine and it's right next to the new one. xD

 • My mom just ordered 3 new computers for a new total of 6 in our house.
My computer guy always has to come fix one of them for some reason or another. Personally i hate vista i think it's terrible.
For an -non computer person- like me, my computer guy tells me to just direct connect when the computer is acting dumb, which is sticking the -usually yellow or green- cable that runs to your router into the laptop and then connecting. then you can remove it and put it back in the router.
Usually works for me. :wink:
