Jack Russell Terriers ;D && Shelter Pooches xD

I am begging my parents to get another dog. ;D
A little one. I have two big dogs, one who is technically my granpa's because she takes to him >.< and the other who is technically my sister's because she says so. >.> As if. He's more attatched to my mother - she can handle him! xD

Tell me about your Jack Russell! I love the little guys.
I know that they're very energetic and most are fairly smart. Plus, they're fast, right? I've always wanted to train my dog for agility... but my dogs aren't interested. D:

So. TELL ME! xD

**No longer getting a Jack Russell. xD There are no breeders or any in the pound. D; Which sucks, but I'm aiming for a sweet little pound puppy instead. ;D Yay!

 • Ok, so this is my Lucky //.^

<img src="http://i31.tinypic.com/s47wj5.jpg"; alt="http://i31.tinypic.com/s47wj5.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i26.tinypic.com/54ap90.jpg"; alt="http://i26.tinypic.com/54ap90.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i30.tinypic.com/24v5kyr.jpg"; alt="http://i30.tinypic.com/24v5kyr.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

She's on of the sweetest little dogs I've ever had. She's a little bit hyper, but not nearly as bad as a thought she would be for a Jack Russel. She loves to play with just about anything, but her favorite things are bubbles and her little pool. She's really smart too. She even learned how to make her own waves in the pool, and she knows most of her toys by different toys. She's very good with other dogs, it's part of her wanting to play with everything. Any dog, any size, is automatically a friend to her. However, she hates the dogs on tv. xD But she's an amazing dog //.^

 • Any health problems?
I know I'm always worried about -purebreed- health problems.
My dogs have never had any problems, ever, but they're mutts. ;P

And, any downsides to owning a Jack Russell?

:D Thanks. Now I'm hooked on Jack Russells. xDD Lol. They sound very loyal...?
 • M dog is actually a maltese/rat terrier but we smuggle her into AKC events under Jack Russell XD heres a pic

<img src="http://i30.tinypic.com/2sb3kwo.jpg"; alt="http://i30.tinypic.com/2sb3kwo.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

-Regulal Jack Russell-

<img src="http://www.justusdogs.com.au/upload/flex_img/31052008112859_01.jpg"; alt="http://www.justusdogs.com.au/upload/flex_img/31052008112859_01.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
 • Oh, nice Vampy. xDD
To me, her face has a different look than a Jack.
But she definitely could pass for one, I guess. Lmfao.
 • No health problems so far, however she is only five. But she's been perfectly healthy so fa. //.^
The one "downside" to them is that they do have a pot of energy, so they just need to be played with a few times a day. But really, every dog needs that xD
Oh, one thing I have noticed about my Jack and a friend's Jack is that they tend to put on weight very easily, so you just have to watch how much food you give 'em.
OMG! Extremly loyal little dog. Oh, and a huge snuggle bug too.

 • I know XD some pictures she looks EXACTALLY like a JRT.. but some she looks nothing like one. It all depends on the angle XD i might have to go get one certain pic of her.. its not on this computer tho

My friend has a Jack, too, (wirehaired), and hers is plenty fat. xD Which I always notice. But she doesn't get all the exercise she really needs - they're too busy for her. D: I want her <3 xD She's a sweetie. And I am really wanting a little, loyal, and affectionate dog. But, I am always telling myself that, "I would not give my dog 'little dog syndrome'". That's what I hear people call it, anyways... it's where the dog is treated so much like a little dog (a baby Dx), not like a dog, and they become dominant, etc. It's horrible. I'm always eager to be the leader and handler of the dog, not part of its pack, which is exhausting on the poor dog anyways. D;

She's adorable. ;D I can tell she looks JRT - even a little bit - because I LOVE HER. Lmfao. <33 But seriously. SO gorgeous. :D
 • thank you.. believe it or not.. she's like.. 5 years old o-o and shes gonna be a mommy *SQUEE*
 • thank you.. believe it or not.. she's like.. 5 years old o-o and shes gonna be a mommy *SQUEE*

Five? She looks like a puppy. Like a year or so! xDD
AND SHE IS?! Aww! I'd be so excited. :D Hehe.
Was it a planned breeding or did she get loose/etc.?
 • XD i know i love her puppy face XD and its planned.. my neighbor has a lil weanie dog/yorkie that were gonna stick her with next time she's in heat. She's gonna love it.. she's always been babie sensitive.. i had chicks once and she ATTACKED my pit bull cuz she was sniffing em >.> and if you touh her baby *squeaky polar bear* she watches you.. then you sit it down and she curls around it and starts lickin it XD
 • Vamp; I'm sure she'll make a great mom then. But have you ever thought (please do not think I'm totally against you for breeding them) that you're just adding more mutts to the population...? More mutts that may end up in pounds. Or creating mutts than might have problems because of the mixture of the certain breeds together?

- If you've read all about the breeding & each breed that's going to be mixed into the puppies and made sure all should go well, good for you and ignore me. xD I'm just a big ol' worrier.

**And, for Jack Russell owners only;
My mom was saying (whether we get another dog or not - she's getting a little bit softer about it) that maybe a Jack Russell wouldn't be a good dog for me because of how much exercise they need and how much of a nuissence they can be if not trained and walked properly. I started to really think about this and realized that to get me to do something, I have to be told over and over and pushed. And since I have asthma and am not very active (although I really do want to get more active), would a Jack Russell be okay for me? I am seriously trying to weigh all pros and cons before asking my Aunt about a Jack breeder that lives near her. So, please tell me pros, cons, and whether or not a Jackie would be okay for me. ;) Thanks!
 • My best friend has a Jack Russel, and she's almost mine because I have
to watch her all the time & I go over there to take her places and stuff,
more than her whole family does. I have severe athsma, and It doesn't
effect anything. If you get to the point where you're in agility training and
need a break, just grab a ball and play fetch, or a disc, that's good
exersize and you virtually don't do anything but throw it. Misty (The Jack
Russel) is usually hyper, but she doesn't push it on me, if I don't want to
play she doesn't make me, sometimes she either sleeps or plays on her
own (Running around the yard, burrying things, chasing
rabbits/birds/cats, ect). So, she is independent. I think having a Jack
Russel even with breathing/exersizing issues is fine. Because I have
sever athsma on top of a lung disease & muscle spasm(sp?) issue, but it's
fine for me.

Hope that helped(?) =]

 • I had a jack/rat terrier mutt. We ended up giving her to another family and getting a kitten instead. They are -extremely- hyper and if they don't get enough exercise they get depressed and start having health problems. Not wanting to eat, etc. Another problem we had with her was getting really excited and peeing on things, as well as tearing things up. We could never leave her in the house alone, even in the same room as us she would get bored and tear things up. A friend of mine has one and he's great, but my friend is always out running with him, taking him to the park and such -Every day- With them you can't just leave them to do their own thing you have to be out with them Every day.

As far as small dogs... My aunt breeds boston terriers. As far as im concerned, i love them. greatest small dogs in the world. They are active as well, but they calm down alot. The only problem with them is that most have to have an alergy shot because of the way their noses are. I think it's like $10 every 3 months or something like that? not completely sure. But as far as my next dog, that is what im getting. =D

Helped lots, thanks. My best friend has a Jack Russell/Pomeranian cross, and he loves fetch. Honestly, if you didn't have to walk dogs, this guy would be fine. xD He earns all his exercise from repeatedly getting a soccer/tennis/basketball after someone throws one. Lmfao.

Hearing about you having all those problems that could possibly effect how well you cacn exercise you dog - and how it doesn't, helps a whole lot. I don't have severe asthma - only hard running in soccer and relays sets it off, but that's about it.

Thanks, Mond! :D

As far as I've read and understood, Jack Russells get bored very easily. And if I ever got one, I'd be crate-training it until he/she learns from my other dog to behave. My Aunt has one and she was crate-trained and as she got older and behaved better, she got more time out of the crate when they were gone. Now she's perfectly fine to be loose in the house while they're out. ;D I would be out with my Jackie every day. Training, exercising, and all that. I always have free time and am lounging around with nothing to do (a kid thing I am trying to get rid of xD), and I think a Jack Russell would help me get out and do more active things outside - as the dog needs it, and so do I, so there's two reasons to get up and go do something. xD

I don't like dogs with pushed in faces. I have nothing against them - just the health problems they can have... $10 every three months is minor compared to some vet bills, lol. Which is good. ;D Boston Terriers are cute, but I've never been interested in getting one. Good luck with your future Bosty! ;P
 • That's what really pushed me with Auzzy. If I didn't exercise him every day, every hour(he woke me frequently in the middle of the night to play), he'd mouth. If he mouthed, he was at risk of leaving. A bit more extreme, butttt. I'm sure you'll be surprised with how much you'll be pushed to exercise a dog. My dad actually wanted a JRT. Not many people know that on here. He likes there size, and he was actually willing to fix up the fence(gangs broke it) so that I could play with the dog easily outside. But I fell in love with Auzzy! <3
I love the JRT gait. It's so friggin' CUTE!

My one dog (oldest; 9 years) is dog-aggressive, too. But before I even think about getting this Jackie, I'm saving up a lot of money to get her socialized at Obedience schools. And I'm willing to take her to our agility course in town to practice, socialize, etc. Plus, dog parks are always a great opportunity. ;D So are Jack Russells one-person dogs, attatched to the ones who exercises and cares for them, or are the good family pets instead? I'm more looking for a dog that's loyal to only me. My one dog (youngest; 3 years) has taken to my mom because I'm always at school. And the oldest one has always turned to my Grandpa because he's the one who brought her home as a pup. So, I really want my own dog that loves me back and doesn't ignore me. xD Not that my two do, they just tend to jump off the couch when I sit beside them. Lmfao. Are Jackies easy to train, then?

 • My story is kind of sad.

I used to live New York(NY) & North Carolina(NC) , alot back and forth. When I lived in NC my aunt bought me a Jack Russell Terrier. Her name was Morgan. I basically grew up with that dog (toddler to pre-teen). I used to go outside on our porch & sit with her when there was thunder storms, cause we'd both get scared (I know im a scardy cat). Same with when it seemed like I was scared at night in the dark, she'd just appear to sleep with meh. x3 We started staying in NY more often & I didn't get to see Morgan (or my family) as much anymore. But one year when I came back, my aunt told me that a young spanish girl threw rocks at her. Morgan bit the girl then had to be put down...

Like with my pitbull Booboo my aunt had also, she got put down for being a pitbull...

-.- annoys me. But Its really sad & I miss em *tear*

 • My dad's uncle breeds JRTs. We're actually against breeding so I've never met him. xD But the shelters ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have JRTs. Ours do atleast. And they tend to be calmer and love you more. xD But before considdering a breeder, PLEASE considder the shelter. They very much need it. Most JRTs don't get adopted from the shelters, and the shelter JRs are much better over all for some reason. Prolly because they've been the worst place a dog could go to, so because you rescued them from that place, they loves you more. I dunno. I always hear the greatest success stories from JRs at the shelter. Just putting in my oppinion. ;)

(Oh, and once you get her, make sure you have company over all the time to give her treats. It helps with the don't bite others thing. xD)

Yup. They are hyper sometimes. xD They live forever though. Just whatever dog you get, considder the shelter.

And I'm glad your ant rescued. xD You should like sneak to her house or something to see the dog. I'm obsessed with dogs and every one I see I fall in love with. I'm not as fond of smaller dogs though. I like terriers. They're very entertaining and have few health problems. They live a long time. And also, they are VERY hyper and VERY aggressive if they are not neutered or spayed, so if you don't want to possibly be looking into being sued in the future(worst case scenereo), I'd suggest getting it neutered. ;)

 • I would most definitely go to the shelter first. But unfortunately, since I live in such a small town, they rarely have JRTs. D: Mostly big dogs. I've been looking at the two shelters that are in my town's websites on petfinder, and so far, it seems as though they don't do much updating... unless the animals are coming in really slow. One has about ten cats and the other has one big Rottweiler only. And about the aggressive thing - I am totally into properly socializing the dog, with people and with dogs. I never leave any of my dogs unspayed or unneutered, either. ;D First thing we do when they're old enough is get them all fixed up so no inexpected puppies come in the future. Or expected behavior issues. xD

My Aunt has a Jackie, too. So I'm going to ask her about her dog. (In fact, the dog's name is Pepper. xD) But, her Jackie isn't at all like people say. She's very mellow, doesn't need a whole lot of exercise, isn't aggressive, and doesn't tear up the house! I guess she's the on exception. xD But, she does go after most small animals like normal Jacks.

Meaning, daddy won't have a whole lotta work coming winter. Winter is not nice to carpenters. Dx Bah. Well, I'll just have to wait, won't I? *bursts from waiting* xD
