Cardinal...

edited July 2009 in General Discussion
So for like the past four days there has been a cardinal crashing into my window repeatedly. All day long.

I finally googled it, and apparently he sees his reflection in my window and thinks it's a predator and trys to peck it.

But, seriously, wouldn't you think he'd give up and realize it wasn't another bird after a day or so? It's been four days now. Nonstop crashing into the window.

&& I've seen birds crash into a window one time and fall to the ground dead -- so this bird must be getting lucky. xD

 • That happened to me once. o.o Every morning when I'd get up for school for like a week there would be a bird crashing into the window Not all day long, but all morning.
 • you'd think they'd learn, but apparently not. xD

 • We don't get Cardinals here, but there's a Pee-Wee (Mudlark) that does the exact same thing at my window all day. Well, it doesn't so much crash into the window as peck at it, so since it doesn't seem to be doing much damage to itself I've given up chasing it away. If it stops doing it at our place it just goes next door anyway xD

I've heard that if you hang something from the roof that looks like a hawk then it scares birds away. I think you can actually buy them from some pet stores, but you could always play with paper mache ^_^

 • There was a magpie that whacked into our porch window and he was sitting on our porch for like a whole day... then Dad put him on a shovel and threw him into the air... LOL  and he flew off fine. He must have been stunned or something.

 • >.<

birds have very strange habits... we have a willy wag-tail that visits our pool promptly at 7am every morning to dip in and out and sing a lap around the pool... one lap. exactly. everyday. XD
 • Huh, there has been a cardinal crashing into my window for months, maybe a year now.

It doesn't do it everyday. Some days it does it like 20 times, some it doesn't do it at all.

It's always fine, and it's not exactly crashing into it, it kinda lighty hits/pecks it, then flies back to a tree or the feeder and doesn't again.

It get's kinda annoying sometimes, but it's also kinda funny.

You would think it'd learn, but it doesn't. :?
• we had a huge storm last winter and a bird flew into our window.
it was unconsious (sp?) for awhile, but it hopped right up and warmed up after i cared for it for a hour or so.

but then it flew into the window again, and broke its wing.
it wouldn't eat because it was freaking out so much,
so we decided that maybe it was faking it cause birds do that to get away.
so we let it out and POOF it flew away.

dumb birds
GOTTA love em xD
