Just want some leopard gecko advice...

For all you people who read my post about getting a crestie (and for the people who advised against it) I have finally decided on a leopard gecko. I was going to get a crestie but I decided not too, because my dad's afraid it will escape, and I'd never hear the end of it if it did, as my tank would be a diy flip. What do I need? I have: 1 10 gallon tank. 1 hygrometer 1 thermometer 1 coco hut (will get something bigger as the leo grows) 1 water dish (well 3, but 1 I'm using) 1 nice rock I will buy (based on your recomendations): Tiles as substrate huts

UTH 2 more hides( You need a cold,warm, and a humid hide.) Reptile Carpet for the bottom A very small calcium dish( I use an old lid from a steak sauce bottle. lol) No heat rocks! If i think of more I'll let you know. xD

I thought you could double the cool side as the humide hide. No? And can I use he coco-husk bedding or is that bad too? The carpets just aren't realistic. Could I use a fine very sand or aquarium gravel in like a black?

Oh, and is "firewater" an actual color, or just made up? I saw one on google images and it's pretty!

Reptile carpet/tile/newpapers are the safest option. A leo. can eat the substrate and sometimes it can get stuck in the belly making it not able to be passed thorugh its stomach. Sand is just horrible for leo's. Gravel same thing as above. You need cool/humid/warm. All seperate.

Ok. And is there any natural looking substrates that don't cause impaction? Hmmm, 3 hides? How do I put those in a 10 gallon. Oh, could I use one of those really long log hides, then put it in the middle, so half is on the cool side, half on the warm making 2, then add a humid hide? And can you buy a humid hide?

well, my brothers lives on sand, 4 or 5 years now. How bad is it? He spits it out... Um, I could cover a plastic container with sand to make it nice?

Oh. So, um, can they get an impaction from coco husk stuff too? And are the LARGE wood chips safe?

okay this is what you need: You need one or 2 hides (for each lepard geko) you need one medium size water dish...some gekos like to bath or sit in the water.. you will also need about 4 dozen crckets and some mealworms... feed them about once every 2 days if you want you could get some calcium so that they do better (just pour the calcium over the crickets) DO NOT make half the tank hot or half cold... DO NOT use ANY heat lamps or heat pads ( leave the tem. at were your house temp is) The cage is fine at ROOM tempatuire...if its too hot they can burn the insides.... YOU CAN use sand...thats what i use for my 4 leapard gekos (make sure its as FINE as possalbie though) you might want to stick a stick in the cage...so they can climb

Um you have to heat the tank. A leo has to have belly heat to digest the food. You also need to leave calcium in the tank at all times. You also need 3 hides. One cold, humid, and moist. Sand is bad and thats all I have to say about that. Any kind of substrate they can get in there mouth and swallow and can't digest is bad. You can get that info from any really good breeder site.

I have 4 leaporad gekos and hey are about 2 or 3 years old...they have sand in there tanks...they digest PERFECTLY fine And NO you do NOT want a heat tank....

ilyanothony1995, maybe you too should see this link???? Um, I would rather be safe than sorry when looking into a decent morph and good breeder's lizard. Especially when they should live 20 years. You may not need a heat lamp, but a mild uth under his warmer hut is good. Where did you get this info by the way? It goes against every google page and care book page I've read!

Captive born reptiles are Pros at gekos...

rsut me...they know what there doing & my uncle Breeds them...he has been for over 20 years now...NOTHING has happend to them :roll:

so trust your 1 website trying to make leopard geckos sound cheap so you buy them, over about 2 or 3 dozen other sources saying otherwise? Right. And how many of your uncle's geckos are originals?
