She missed her father, Lucas. She was just twelve when he died and as she grew to the age of sixteen she felt the heavy burden of a missing heart, as cold as stone. "Jakari?" she turned to see her mothers face. "What are you doing out here?" she lifted up her sketch book, a picture of a girl and her dog sitting under an apple tree enjoying the sunset. "This is beautiful, Ja!" Jakari smiled as her mother handed the picture back. "Ready to eat?" Jakari sighed and replied with a nod. The dinner table was silent, as it always was. "Mom, i was thinking and Issabelle's dog just had puppies" "That's nice, dear" "They are border collies, I hear they are real smart" "Mhmm" Jakari swallowed a mouth full of corn, "Would i be able to get one?" Lesly stopped chewing "I don't know Ja, that's a lot of work" "Please?" "I'll think about it" Jakari's face grew bright, she knew she had the puppy now. A week had passed and Jakari waited for her mothers reply. "Ja, phone!" Jakari walked to the phone thinking it was nothing, it was issabelle. Jakari ran to her mother with a smile as wide as the sea, "Mom! Issa said the pups where ready!" Lesly sighed, "Fine, go ahead" Jakari ran out the door, it was a beautiful morning, the sun hit the fields just right and the breeze made a perfect spring day. She arrived to Issabelle's house, which was just the next farm over. "Hey, Ja!" Jakari walked towards Issabelle, who had a box of eight border collie pups. "They are beautiful" "Yeah, everyone of them has a home except him" Issabelle pointed to the runt of the litter, he was pure white with little black spots and a pink nose, "he's deaf, no one wants a deaf dog they are too much work" Jakari's face fell from the little female she had picked out to the runt. "We are going to have to put him to sleep" "I'll take him!" Issabelle's face looked in confusion, "you sure?" "No, I'm positive" Jakari patted her new puppies head. "You can have him for free, he's not worth anything" Jakari's face scolded at Issabelle and she looked into the pups baby blue eyes, she whispered "He's a fortune" Jakari headed home as the little puppy followed close behind. Lesly waited outside. "Well, where is the lil' guy?" Jakari picked him up and handed him to her mother. "Issabelle said he was free" "Really, why?" "She said he's not worth anything because he's deaf, but we will show her, right boy" Lesly placed the dog back on the ground smiling in aggrement with Jakari. "What's his name?" "Trigger" Jakari watched her new puppy as he ran to the sheep pin barking and them. "He's perfect"

I will put the other chapters up in a few.
Enjoy.
:)

 • Yay! x3 That's really sweet. The words you chose fit in perfectly and I love the idea of her taking the deaf puppy when they were going to put him to sleep. It's sad when people say that a dog isn't worth anything because of the loads of love they can give even if they can't hear. It's like throwing away and wasting a dog's perfect love <3
 • Thank you dusty.
:D

Chapter Two: It's Been A While

By the time Trigger reached the age of six months, he knew all the basics of hearding through human body language and hard work. "Lets round 'em up boy, show Issa what your made of" Issabelle came over to check in on Trigger after six months of not seeing him. Issabelle arrived and Trigger was the first to greet her, she patted his head and followed Jakari to the small enclosed hearding pen."Ready Trig?" Jakari asked patting her knees, Trigger barked and wagged his tail. Issabelle only sighed and rolled her eyes while leaning onto the fence. Jakari opened the gate and Trigger followed behind. Issabelle sighed once again waiting for something exciting. Jakari bent down and patted Trigger "okay, trig, heard 'em up" Trigger barked, "Show Issa what your made of" Jakari opened up the barn door and the sheep ran to the enclosed area huddling together while Trigger followed close behind. Jakari ran to the pasture gate, "okay Trigger" Jakari pointed to the sheep and then the pasture. "Time him, Issabelle" Trigger followed on the sheeps heels not letting any one of them out of site, they made it into the pasture, safe and happy. "What was the time?" Issabelle's jaw dropped, "Under seven" Jakari knelt down with a huge grin. "Good boy, Trigger" She reached in her pocket and got out a rawhide bone, one of his favorites. Jakari and Issabelle headed inside for some lemonade as Trigger followed a few steps behind. "So, how are the other pups and Lace?" (Lace was the mother of the eight puppies) Issabelle sighed, "We had to put Lace to sleep, Ja" Jakari looked in confusion, "but she was so healthy?" "You can't always tell whats going on in the inside, everything looks perfect, but it wasn't" "Well, what happened?" "She had a tumor" "I'm so sorry, Issa" "It's okay, we ended up keeping two of the female pups, Rye and Lyla" "Are the hearders?" "Rye is" "We should go to the state fair, they are having a hearding competition" Issabelle looked uneasy about the challenge, knowing how great Trigger had been. "Oh, alright" The two friends enjoyed the rest of the evening together and thought of thier dogs.
