sheath cleaning

edited July 2009 in Vent
So I got in a new horse for training a couple days ago and he was having trouble peeing. So I asked the owner do you clean his sheath and she said what's that. So I explained to her about the pocets and what not and how it needs to be cleaned regularly (not to mention he's gray and they are proan to sheath problems  ). So she's like that's disgusting I'm not doing that! So I cleaned it myself which he was not too happy about because it was painful. I mean seriously I pulled out a bean the size of a nickel!! After I finished I told her I knew a lady who does it for inexpensive and does a really good job she charges 15.00 per horse and you only need to do it about every 2 months and she was like I can't afford that! I'm thinking okay you can pay 500.00 bucks a month to train plus 200 board but you can't pay for a sheath to get cleaned  . I'd rather her keep the 700.00 and give the horse the proper care. I always seem to get the people that don't give a crap. Not even to mention that before she brought him to me she had him in her backyard which was full of auto motors and stuff and she fed him sweet feed for his primary food which ruined his teeth. Now I have to train him to a boselle (sp) because a 5 yr old horse has bad teeth! Ugh people irritate me....

 • If she doesn't even know what a sheath is she shouldn't even have a horse. People like that are annoying.

 • me! me! me! mi opinion is to slap her across her pathetic face for not keeping the horse clean. >.> stupid people, this is why I don't have a horse yet: no job (which equals no money) and not complete knowledge. that would be why i ride at a ranch and pay 20 bucks every so often.
though i am going to try and get a job therea as stablehand. >.> i hope they let me..coz i know quite a few things..though i just learned that one.. o.o but it's life, i've seen people do it on the educational things i watch on horses. -nods head- just didn't know what it was technically called.

 • Alot of people just don't care.
 • i've never had a gelding or stallion for that matter as a horse.
(i always end up with the fillys xD)

but i see how you can be irratated with this-

to be honest i didn't know of such thing till now!

And i'm not sure if you can but it is possible to report that, if in the future you let her know that since you did it once, that she needs to take care of it the next time. Cause $15 is not much when she has to pay $700.

Hope all goes well!

 • yeah it's very irritating I normally don't charge that much but the horse is in intensive training (6 days a week riding and driving) so it's more because he is in enough training for 2 horses and is going to show so its a bit pricey
