2 BABY RATS! I was walking outside and my wolf/chow dog was chewing on something and she KNEW i didnt wanna see it... so i knew to look. I ran up to her and she dropped something.. i figured.. oh she just caught something and she's eating it.. so i looked at it.. and i saw something wriggling.. something itty bitty and wrinkly.. so i picked it up and it was a BABY RAT! It was still furless and its eyes were closed.. so i took it inside and put it in my extra hamster cage.. and went back outside after telling my mom i was gonna try to hand raise it... so i walk outside.. and there Piper is AGAIN chewing on something... she gives me a guilty look... so i go to check it out.. i get halfway to her and she drops it and RUNS! I look... ANOTHER baby... so i pick it up and start back toward the house... and then she goes jumping into the woods.. and i know she's gonna do it again so i grab her collar and pull her to the dog cage where she is now. So i take this OTHER little wriggling grey ball of skin and place it with the first.. and i notice something.. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO FEED THESE LITTLIES! OR HOW TO ATTEMPT TO KEEP THEM ALIVE!!! HELP! If ANYONE has ANY advice on how to hand rear baby rats GIVE ME HELP! Im bout to get a pic of them so ju's guys can have better info!!! I REALLY wanna save em! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE?! awww baby rats i had a pet rat once there actually the best rodent pets

but as for now get a serenge and kitten formula fee it to them and keep them super warm.. make them a little bed and all that good stuff and good luck

Thanks. My mom is all for me hand raising them. My dad is gonna let me but his exact words were "Rats deserve a trap" and i was like... -_- IMA TRY MY BEST TO SAVE THEM. I got my animal loving from her and she believes that raising animals like this is GREAT for my self estem and for letting me be responsible. Theyre so cute tho! OMG! I hope i can save em! Once/if they begin eating on their own and eliminating *ive looked up some sites already* I will need some help naming them.

well good luck... my rats name was snowman he was ahdorable he was all albino and stuff but the bedding *dont use cedar or colored bedding* i had in his cage was green pine and it staind his tale green lol... but yea dont put them in a cage with cedar its got chemicals in it that will make them sick mine got a respritory infection and we had to have him put to sleep

From the way these little guys (Girls?) looks now i think theyre gonna be the traditional brown. Theyre little wild ones so yea. And idk what i have them in right now. Ill have to go check the package.. i might have to put them in some straw?

I will! Im about to feed the first one.. waiting for the cows milk i got to cool down just a tad so as not to burn their little mouths! Im tryin to keep them by my lamp right now so theyll stay by the 80-90 degrees! The hard part is gonna be the "getting up every 2-3 hrs a night" to feed them.

They are so cute!! I wish more people loved the wilds like I do! Field mice and rats are so freaking cute!! I love their brown color and buggy little eyes. Good luck with these babies.

Could you start looking around for some vets in your area that might be able to give you advice? I know a bit, since I've raised kittens before. But it's been years. Keep them warm, especially since these are little guys and have clearly been traumatized. Which it sounds like you're trying to do. You'll need to help them eliminate. You know, rubbing around to stimulate them and stuff. I'm not sure what rats eat, but some kind of baby formula might work? And an eye dropper..?

I just fed em and yes i tried the stimulating thing. Im keeping them together so hopefully theyll be less tramatized. Im using Cows Formula and Theyre under my lamp right now. Theyre moving around a lil and squeaking.. and ur right Labs.. they have to be around a week or two. Ive read up a little bit and i think i can stop stimulating them as soon as their eyes open. Which i dont think will be too far away actually. Theyre squeaking at me when i try to feed them and they DID eat. So its going good so far

Ive got 2 hamsters already... i was kinda scheptical about pickin em up at first... because they were rats.. but they were babies and i COULDNT just let em die!! >.>

You need a special formula and droppers, and you need to feed them 3-4 times daily with it. here's a million articles that should help you out! One of them is doing REALLY well.. its eating and moving a LOT and squeaking at me (xD) and it even eliminated.. but the other one im not sure of. Its moving.. but its not squeaking and i THINK it ate.. and im not sure if it eliminated or not >.>

I totally forgot about this.. get a sock and fill it with beans heat it up in the microwave for 20 secs that will keep the babies warm - my vet told me that for a baby bird. Lamps on newborns can't be healthy (imo) I'm sure they like it dark and the beans will keep them warm.

Thats a good idea Alma. Ive been worried about over heating them. Theyre both still doing well this morning... now theyre both walking aournd a bit and moving.. and theyve both squeaked at me now xD Also their nose and their mouths are so close together its hard to stop milk from going up their nose and they blow little milk-snot bubbles

I raised a baby rabbit like that. Kitten formula works well for small animals in my experience.

You barely know me, but I'm sure we have room, and i'd be intresting to keep a wild boy... ...okay, probably not. Find someone in your area who'd love to have them. Don't give them to a store/animal welfare, find somone trustworthy who's had rats before. Maybe a breeder?

im gonna keep em xD I got hamsters and everything else.. so why not. i might give one of em away if they both make it though. Just cuz i think theyre both the same gender. Im gonna wait and see how they get along. They seem to be doin very well so far. From what ive read.. teir eyes should be opening up sometime this week. The hard part is getting up at night to feed em. But after this week i shouldnt have too
