Schutzhund events

Hey, I'm new to the forums, so I don't know if this has been posted, but I feel like as mushing favors Huskies (? I think...I don't quite remember), that Schutzhund should in some way favor the German Shepherd. In real life, the sport was designed for the betterment of German Shepherds, and is most popular among GSDs and Belgian Malinois. Does anyone feel this way? Also, I'm not quite sure, but from the page the explains the events, it seems that high aggression is actually a disadvantage in Schutzhund, being that in both the obedience and tracking portions it subtracts 5% and in the protection portion it adds 5%. It seems that well-controlled aggression in a trained dog is an advantage and indeed a necessity in this sport. These are just my thoughts...

 • No specific breed is necessarily favored in any event type. Event results are based on the breed type (working, sporting, etc.) and stats, not the breed itself. I've had wolves that have done quite well in mushing events, so it's not just Huskies that are good in that sport. ;) German Shepherds, if bred and trained well, should be able to excel in shutzhund just as well as any breed.
 • I had understood from the event descriptions in the "help" section that certain breeds were favored in certain sports (I think the greyhound is also mentioned in racing, but like I said I don't quite remember). I guess what irks me is that people enter toy breeds in schutzhund and they can do pretty well which is totally unrealistic.
 • The help files provide the following:

Mushing
Certain types of dogs get a huge bonus for this event type, as they can withstand the snow and have it in their blood to do just this!

Racing
Greyhounds do get a huge bonus in this sport. This sport also judges alot on natural speed (the stars).

While Greyhounds are mentioned specifically, I think the intent in that statement was that they tend to have the highest speed of all the breeds, and so they would get the bonus, based on their speed, not necessarily breed.

Hope that helps. :)
 • It's a game. =p I have a cattle herding yorkshire terrier who does well, and a papillon in schutzhund. It's just for fun. =p Just because we win doesn't make us silly.

So I'm against this because it'd throw things off, and make it less open and fun. D=

 • also going against this. i have large breeds (like mastiff breeds) that are excell at flyball, and i agree with what Kaz said, it would make it a little less fun, but much more challenging if you want to show a yorkie in cattle herding. lol.

btw, i dont like too much challenge. :p
