Completing taking off pictures

edited April 2009 in Game Suggestions
Using my friends sponsor kennel, I can see that some people just breed so they can put pictures on the puppies.

Taking copywritten pictures is one of the worst internet crimes, yet people do it every day and don't think twice about it, probably because they either don't know or don't care about the persecution they are risking.

If people really have to put pictures up, like drawings or digital art, they can use the image code in the comments. Orbis Games can get into a lot of trouble because of all the hotlinking on their websites.

  • I agree. ^.^

One time.. I found a picture of -my- dog on another dog.. Until I messaged them and told them that it was mine and they didn't have permission to use it.. it made me furious.. I think this is a good idea.
i know you're supposed to cherish life , but this crap isn't paradise .

  • There ya go! A good suggestion that really needs to be looked at for the sake of the game.
Good one reina
  • I don't agree it would punish all the people who make/buy art or photograph their own dogs. I think a better solution would be a 'report image' button at the bottom of the page when viewing a dog.

But I do agree theft of art and photographs is a huge problem on VP

  • It wouldn't necessarily "punish." The code in the comments would be the only way out, if there were no image thing at the top. If you didn't know the code, you probably also wouldn't know about copyright issues.

But the report button is also a great idea! The only thing about that is how would people know if it is copyrighted by someone else or not? If someone saved it onto their photobucket or tinypic you would never know unless you've seen it on the web before.

  • It has always been a huge issue. At one time, it bugged me so much, I bought dogs up for 0 or rescued dogs and removed at least 500 dogs. =P

I was bored that day. xD

But I took all of the images off before releasing. I have NO clue why people still do it. Pictures don't make the dog, the stats do.

  • html only works on dogs that are up for sale :3

Also it could work somewhat like what happens at deviantart when you report an image, you simply link to the orignal.

So if some one ripped one off the akc. You can post a link to the orginal imag that they have stolen. Most of the people who steal images are not to smart and just use the first one they find through a google search, and then they use the websit's actual image (stealing band width)

Well yeah, but I just put 2983847 in and then take them off the market, and the comments stay.

  • We're slowly cracking down on the use of hotlinked pictures . . . unfortunately we cannot do anything about it unless the owner of the picture makes a complaint.

In some cases, people have done the responsible thing and have actually contacted the owner of the pictures and have received permission to use them.

Most cases, they are indeed stolen. But we are unable to do anything until a complaint is made by the owner of the picture.
