Anyone show or work their dogs?

If so, post pics and stories here! I'd love to see/read them! :D

 • Well, I'm not allowed to post pictures of my dogs, but I can definately share with ya :]

My moms been in the dog business since she was 10, which would make it..her 33rd year? Yeah..
She grew up with Newfoundlands, Bernese Mountain Dogs and Samoyeds.
When she got pregnant with me, she took a break from handling. But..
when I born, she got right back into it xD
When I was almost 2, my mom bought a male puppy from a breeder in
North Dakota. It was our very first Bernese together.

I grew up with lots of dogs just like she did, and when I was 9 I started learning how to handle myself :]
We now have 14 dogs total, 12 of them being Bernese Mountain dogs and the
other two are our newest additions, 2 Newfoundlands (littermates) we named
Journey and Titan.

All but 3 of our Berners have earned their Champion title. All of our dogs,
cept for the puppies, are CGC certified and 7 of our Berners have titles
in obedience. Our dogs have also qualified for AKC Eukanuba National Champioship, Westminster, and the National Dog show numerous years in a row, though we've never actually made it past the breed ring xD
We also participate in monthly drafting, or cart-pulling, with our local kennel club.

We usually have about 2 litters a year. Our dogs are all OFA in hips and elbows before we breed them, and females aren't bred until 4 years of age. We never breed until our dogs have their ch. title, and we don't breed dogs who have "iffy" temperaments.
Mom and pups have their own nursery building in between our house and the air conditioned building we attached our indoor/outdoor dog runs to.
This year, and probably not for awhile to come, we won't be having any Berner litters, but once our female Newfie is of age, we would like to breed her :]

I also am an avid competitor in AKC junior showmanship and I help our local kennel club with obedience training, junior handling classes, adult handling classes and grooming classes. [:
Hmm...lets see. o.O
I wanted to say something else...but I can't think of anything xD
 • Omg really?! I wish I could be you. :D Congrats on all your dogs' championships. That's awesome!
There should be more breeders like you guys, srsly. I like your ethics -- that the temperaments and hips and elbows are cleared before breeding.

I can't imagine having 14 extremely long-haired dogs. Now that is tough. :!:

I'm hoping to buy a male cane corso next year and show him! Also participate
in PSA and/or Schutzhund, depending what is around here. Then I will get
his OFA and PennHIP at 25 months for hips and elbows. Then make sure his
thyroid and eyes are clear. I don't breed but in case my breeder wants to
retain coverings from him or something I'm keeping him unneutered.
Also you can't show neutered dogs ha.

I will keep your success in mind to help encourage me along! :D

 • I show my dog, Tucker, in Agility. Dunno if you knew that already or not xD I talk about him a lot...

Anyway, he's got a few 'titles'. Lots of first place ribbons, because where he was running, he had no competition at his level xD Though, he beat a lot of times. One run, he got 2nd fastest speed out of all dogs, his level and higher. So.. Im pretty proud, considering Springers arent always the fastest dogs in the world. Hes a fast one though, lol, hard to keep up with him sometimes.

Hes a master at weaves, because that's the only equipment we have at home right now.

We did borrow a few jumps a while ago when I was working on calling him off of obstacles & practicing turns and whatnot, so I got a couple pictures of him going over jumps:

<a href="http://dannyphantom66.deviantart.com/art/Tucker-Agility-85759687"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://dannyphantom66.deviantart.com/ar ... y-85759687

<a href="http://dannyphantom66.deviantart.com/art/Tucker-Agility-Jump-86153444"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://dannyphantom66.deviantart.com/ar ... p-86153444

My dad takes pictures at trials, but Im in all of them xD So, cant show them. I would take pictures of him doing his weaves, but I still cant send him to them xD I tried, and he turns around and looks at me like Im weird for not following him. Hes a very close worker, which can be good & bad at times.

I love agility though =D And, we're both very happy when we get to do it. Its the best sport out there <3

Yeah, its definitely tough to keep their coats up. My boyfriend and I bathe them at least twice a week,
if not once, and they get haircuts about every 1-2weeks.
Some of their coats grow faster than others. We have to brush them out 2 times a day to make sure their hair doesn't
get matted either. xD Kinda sucks.
But yeah..in the end, it's all worth it :] And they're wonderful breeds.
Good luck with your Cane Corso! :D I'm sure that will go wonderfully ^_^
 • Wheaty is the unpaid kennel help of her mother o.o My mom makes me groom with promises of showing... I show in 4-h obed. I love it more then conformation <.< But I wanna get back into conformation, and my parents say how they'd love it if I'd show an interest but everytime I do I get no where, so its a lost cause.

I lost my train of thought o.o sorry about that...

 • I love it when people work their dogs. It gives such a closer bond between the two.

Unfortunately, my to crippled dogs are nothing but pets. Emily loves water beyond all else. I'm hoping to make a weekend trip to Michigan for some dock jumping competitions this summer. I've got a friend up that way that says there is a training center that's only five bucks for all day. :) Awesome!!

In the furture, I plan on getting an ADBA conformation and weight pull dog. APBTs are my one and only true love. *sigh* One day. Soon I hope.
 • Awe sweet that is so awesome! Ya I want to get a corso for conformation and weight pull.... and maybe personal protection but I'm not sure.
