New Hamsterr

Ok. So I just got a new hamster. She is a Chinese Dwarf Hamster. I don't have any questions in particular, but if you have any tips, they would be greatly appreciated. I will soon have pics!

Somehow it got out of it's cage the first night. Then, I felt something soft on my face. I woke up to my hamster under my nose, and it looked like I had a mustache. But now, I can hold it with my hand wide open and it will stay there. I also noticed it runs on it's wheel ALL day and night. It can get annoying every now and then.

Keep it away from Huskies. Especially mine. o_o Because my Siberian Husky would chase it and um. eat it. yeah. It's happened with baby mice before. SO BEWARE.

< Huskies are scary. xD Well no. They just like chasing small animals. o_o; Especially my doggy. xD My only tip. ;P

I know. I have a black lab, and it is a rabbit hunting dog. o_o But, it's been pretty good.

Just so you know my friend Dylan's brother had a hamster and after it got out the first time, they had to take it back because it kept trying to escape. The vet said that once hamsters have had that taste of freedom, they NEVER want to go back in a cage again and will continue to try and escape.

Im on my 4th hamster. They can be much fun

Random tip, use bedding like Carefresh. It lasts a little longer than cedar(sp?) and it it doesnt stink as much. Plus, sometimes cedar and stuff messes with their smelling or something of the sort after awhile. My hamster likes to knock the top of his cage off. Then he just sits there...I dont get why but he just does xD Don't worry about the wheel thing. It can be super comfoting after awhile. I cant sleep without it now. Once my hamsters die I have to get one before I go to bed or I cant sleep because nothings running and Im so used to it. Another random tip, if you have a cat. If your hamsters cage is on top of something (a dresser etc.) then put a jar with some change in front of it. If your cat can get up there, and knocks the jar off, it'll scare them and they wont try and get up there anymore. Worked with my cat anyway xD

oh i had a dwarf hamster once but one winter it hibernated and it never woke up.... i know that sounds funny but it wasnt....but now lookin back i do find it funny because when spring came i spent like 3hours trying to wake him up....laugh if you want i did but anyway RIP Chubbs and good luck with your new hamster

Yea, I'm starting to get used to the wheel. It isn't as annoying. I do have a cat, but it is outside. Cool tip though.

I think I spoke too soon. My hamster broke free last night. And where did I find him? -Inside- my humidifier(sp?). How in the heck he got in there dont ask me. But he was fine once I got him out. Just a lil' thirsty and tired. xD My kitty didnt even try and get him. She was meowing and pawing me until I got up and wouldnt leave my humidifier alone until I relized my hamster was loose and there he was! xD

I've had two hamsters... One that I had whom died after four, happy, hamster years :] [R.I.P Casey, my boy ;_;] And another who died of drytail... I think that's what it's called. My sister fed her veggies EVERY DAY and she got the runs and got very sick and died before I could help her </3 So, don't feed your hamster TOO many veggies or they'll get drytail which is baaad. I luffle my bunny; I don't like hamsters too much anymore xD

I'd say only about 1 or 2 servings in a week. My sister gave ours 1 serving every day, so that's the only reason. I'd give 'im a carrot/small piece of apple (no skin) every 2-3 days, but I'm not really a hamster expert.
