I feel so bad. >.

edited February 2009 in General Discussion
Pepper and Sadie are on my last nerve. They keep barking and getting into mini-fights and I screamed at them and shot them with our water sprayer for when the dogs bark. I've had it! I keep going downstairs and they'll fit thier way through and run down w/ me. I've screamed and shot with the water thing a bunch today and feel bad. What to do?

(If this should go in vent, by all means change, but, please don't tell my evil self it's in the wrong section if you aren't able to change it. xD I've had it today.)

  • Oooh, I know how you feel. I always get soooo mad at my boy, but then he looks all sad . . . and then I get sad . . . and then I give him big hugs and totally spoil him. XD

  • xD The girls have issues. They don't like eachother. BOTH ARE SPAYED. My 2 boys are neutered. xD They still have problems. Today, I went crazy and sat down after a screamy fit and each was sitting on a side of me, looking accross me to the other. It was funny. I told them they should talk about thier problems, and they looked at me. Probably cause I wasn't yelling. xD

  • I'm pretty good with dogs. Try thinking of yourself as them. If they aren't hurting each other, they are probably playing, and you could put them in your yard. For barking, try a quick no, and if they don't listen, make them sit, and use a voice that means you're in trouble. They'll drop their tail and try to be good.

  • From the way Pepper puts it, these girlies aren't playing . . .

  • >.< They isn't playing. I know a dog when s/he is playing. It's funny when my friends come over they say "ARE THEY FIGHTING?!" and I'm like nuuuu....

xD I've tried all those things. If I put em outside, they'll bark. They don't listen to in trouble voice. O.O

But, I've had dogs all my life. Big ones too. Great danes, mastiffs, etc.

Meh pups think no means 'Good girl! Keep going!'

This won't help. Water only works with cats and screaming is meaningless to a dog. You need to be calm and firm.

  • I always found that a plastic water bottle filled with small stones works well when shook. Most dogs will stop what they're doing because it's a strange noise. Thats when you praise your dog for doing as they're told. (Obviously you back up the gesture with voice commands).

  • I taught Tucker what 'quiet' means, and it usually works. He barks when i throw the ball for him, so I would tell him "Quiet" and as soon as he stopped barking, I'd let him have the ball. Worked well for training, now he doesnt bark for me, and the command works indoors as well.

And the spray bottle does work, if you're not overusing it. If you use it too much the dogs arent going to care about it anymore. Yelling doesnt help at all xD As the person above said. It just gets them more excited

I dont use a spray can (my dogs love water) or a shaker can... shaker cans you have to be careful with, because you dont want the dog to get frightened by loud noises.

Also, Im not an expert xD If you really want help, I'd try talking to a dog trainer or something. I'd just be careful with some methods because they arent meant for all dogs.

Good luck with them though :D
All good things must come to an end. All endings will begin new good things.

My dogs love loud noises and thinks that it means that they should bark more. xD I know I'm sounding hard to deal with and annoying, but I'm so done with them. xD

Nickel- I'll stop yelling. xD And yes, it does work very good, the water sprayer. xD

  • Im a sucker for when Sim is naughty.
Like, shell attack the cat. Although she can defend herself, but you guys should see some photos of the cat and dog playing. Its hysterical!

Moving on. Last night and the night before Simea was going 'off tap' .. or barking like mad. She doesnt bark. Its not usual. So I know if somethings wrong.
When I went outside to silence her, she didnt grin, which means she knows she wasnt in trouble.

Im the soul trainer of Sim, so when I speak in a low, 'command' voice, she grins and lays down, sometimes rolling over. Submission.
My mums boxers play fight alot, but they have been bought up together, when things get too rough, a water bottle normally works .. or.. funnily enough, grab their tails.
Im not mean. I just know how to make them obey. And it doesnt hurt them, cause then they start cleaning each other.
