What do your parents think?

edited February 2009 in General Discussion
About you playing VP?
And this question is more or less directed to people who have been playing
for years now, and are on like every day, for hours at a time.

I remember like..sometime last year, my mom would get like uber pissed
at me for spending hours on end on VP and doing nothing else.
I don't know what it is, if she figured I have friends on here too, or what, but
now she's perfectly fine with me being on here like 24/7, as long as I get
my chores done and what not.

What about you?

Comments

 • Um. As punishment I get VP taken away, not the rest of the computer, just VP. If that tells you anything.

They hate me being on 24/7.

Mostly they just bug me to give up my VP friends and hang around with real people.

 • Hahaha, they don't know about VP. They do know that I waste a ton of time on the computer though. I'm usually on here when I'm chatting with RL friends/procrastinating in some other way anyways.
 • My parents hate VP but are fascinated about how every time I see a dog, I'm
able to identify it and give some interesting facts about it. Then they ask,
how do I know that and I smile and tell them, VP! Duh! lol
But I also tell them, so they don't think I'm just like chatting away, that I do
graphics and art work on here. Its not just fun and games since I'm actually
practicing on what I want to be when I get older.... lol That usually makes them
give in..
 • xD my mum doesn't really know, and if she does, she doesn't care too much... I mention it every now and again, but mostly VP is my guilty pleasure hehehe

 • I have to say, for people who can't own such
beautiful dogs and show them like professionals and win cash, this
site is great! I told my mom that once and she said, "Just don't
gamble too much of your fake money, otherwise your gonna come
crying to me expecting monopoly money or something..." Which
is not true! :x lol I don't even know how to play that game...
 • 8) my parents don't exactly care. as long as I get everything important done, I'm okay. xD But if I forget about the important things and go on VP.. they get mad  so.. thats how my parents are with VP..

 • They aren't crazy about it. At first they thought it was like a chat room(my friend had recently been found to be giving out information on a chatroom so of course, my parents jumped on me.) so I invited my dad into my account and he explored, looked at rules, etc. and he liked the ideas of the website. Two weeks later he payed for an upgrade for me. Then I really got into VP, and I spent hours at a time on it and went on and off restrictions. Even if I finished everything and more first, they didn't like me living on the computer. Too lateeee. I spend my whole like on the computer. xD Now, I basically have free rein. There's a whole floor separating me from everyone else, I have a computer in my room, and I get my chores and school work done. I also keep ahead, for instance I am slightly behind in math and science(my favorite subjects), but I am at a college reading level. So, they feel it plays out fairly. I suppose.

 • My dad rolls his eyes and walks away if I start talking about it.
He hates it. Because Im supposed to be looking for a job and stuff.
Im like. Theres only so many jobs I can apply for. Hell, I get all my chores and what not done. (I no longer go to school) But if I dont have a job/interview by the time he gets home. He think it is VP's fault.

I used to be addicted to VHR. But that changed, because I found I enjoyed VP a lot better. Now Im hardly on VHR.
My mum and stepdad dont mind, because they know that Im not just training fake dogs, they know Im talking to people and being 'social' and that Im learning about the breeds and what not.
My 'html' level of education has gone up a lot too, and I know a lot more about the computer.

But yeah. My dad doesnt want anything to do with it. If I want something, basically I have to get it myself. =[

 • Hrm they knew when I joined like 4 years ago... But now I think they forgot and think i spend my time on some social networking site...

 • My dad has threatened to block VP several times. I always get around it though xD

My mom doesn't care. I met several friends on here that I didn't originally get along with, who are now like family to me and I can tell them -anything-.

So its really great being a part of this community.

 • I just get heat from being online so much. Not really VP in particular. I just really like some of the people on here and I think vp can open your eyes to other opinions and is a way to learn. I have been watching artists and how people critique them and try to apply it to what I do draw. Not all of us gets along, but that would be weird if we did. No one gets along perfectly.

Back to the main point..I dont get too much of a problem for being on this site in particular. My mom has once said "you should meet some of them for real" and I was like "..." xD She is being silly. Like she would let me go over to another state or something. So why would other parents? *snickers* *hugs all her friends* :D

 • My mom's comment...

"She's playing on that dog game... what else does she do?"

xD When my dad asked what I was doing online

 • I get my comp taken for punishment. O.O My whole thing. Between vp and sims? 24/7. O.O

My mom laughs when I get excited and show her all my pups. (I do this so she will feel more accustomed to vp. Every time I get a new dog, I show her. It even annoys me. xD)

My dad doesn't give a care. xD

 • Hee hee. My dad is perfectly fine with me being on VP, because I explained how much 'educational value' was in it. But most of the time I'm training, and THAT really wierds him out. I mean, coming home to find your daughter clicking white boxes for hours on end? XD

 • Yup. I told mom one day that I had learned so much about the diff breeds and made up some stuff about Snt. Bernards and such. xDD

That drove my mom insane. When I was training 24/7 until I couldn't anymore because my hand kept twitching (like a click), she was really weirded out. xD (I kept tapping my right index finger over and over while just sitting on the couch watching TV :3)

She asked me why it was so much fun to click boxes all day instead of, like, cleaning the house where you actually get to exercise more than your finger. XD
I told her it wasn't the clicking I liked, I liked to see the progress that I made on the dog--and not to mention all the VPC I could earn doing it.
She looked at me funny and told me to clean my room. xD

I'm not on it too often now, so she's sort of ignoring the site. She doesn't support my "wasting" of my money towards stuff on here, but I'm not really in tune with her outlook on anything, so no difference. Haha.
 • Tee-hee. After I started VP I bought 2 different dog books so I could see all of the bazillion breeds on there. ^.^ Since I started when I was really young, it took me a while to figure out why I couldn't find "Mutt" or "Labradoodle" in my dog book. ^.^

lmao my parents were weirded out by that.

Now they've just kind of given up on me xD

 • lmao my parents would be like 'wtf?' whenever I got a dye because they would think the color was weird and how I could waste my allowance on it xD
ya... my parents are weirded out because once they found me up at three staring at my screen going -click, click, click, click- bug eyed training a dog.. and they were just like... "WHAT THE HECK! O.O go to bed weirdo!!"
lol I started cracking up... just imagine! Me.. Bug eyed.. on a lap top.. sitting in the dark silence.. clicking on a mouse non-stop... o.o scary.

 • Haha. My mom doesn't get mad at me anymore, but she used to get so pissed when I'd sit here for hours on end. I don't come on here for -as- long anymore, but still do a lot. Because I used to sit on here from when I got home from school until 8 to take a shower and then get back on for a little while before going to bed. xD And she knows about this game, and so does my dad, but they don't really care. She was mad about me going on chat because chat rooms are dangerous, even if the VP one isn't really, but I think she forgot about me going on chat altogether. xD
