<br><br>To answer the question.. Pro is short for professional. Professional means to gain profit from your work. Real life money.<br><br>[/size]
<br><br>Then why do people use it on here for a different meaning?
<br><br>They just want people to buy their stuff. They don't really know what "pro" means.
  • I sort of mark my layouts pro because I have taken lessons, and I have sold one or two to my friends and another person for their websites, but that's why I label mine as pro.

  • I think that in general I lable SOME of my stuff as pro because they are one of a kind, and custom made, often my own art work (for ex. my hand drawn stuff) but I don't label everything as pro because it doesn't always seem <span style="font-style:italic">professional</span> to label it as "pro"

  • Well, like I said, I have sold mine for real money. In fact it was like $50

  • If someone is a professional, then they do something for a living. I believe that if you are to call yourself a professional, then you should be creating images you should be able to make money off of, something that you have actual work experience in. That is why amusedinsanity's threads here I am comfortable in labeling "Professional," - she actually is a professional and does this for a living ;)

<br><br><br>I never click threads that have pro in the title because to be honest they usually aren't good.

<br><br>Good point =D I suppose a professional should let their reputation speak for itself, eh?

  • pro has lost its meaning on VP, from plain simply 'professional', and therefore making a sort of career of it. <br><br>I'm not entirely sure how this is worded, in fact, I am half asleep, so at the moment it makes sense, but I may edit it when I wake up more in the morning : )

  • <span style="font-size:75">If you have to advertise that you're 'professional' to get buyers or potential buyers, then you probably aren't very good. :/ Of course this is hypothetical, and not pointed at anyone in particular. Just in general.</span>

  • I might be able to clear this up a bit. Pro, has lost the meaning of professional on vp. On vp, "pro" usually means hand-coded html/css/xhtml etc... versus going online and copy/pasting a code. from biggo.ws etc... and people say that to make people know that. I use the term pro to state that. For banners, I'd say pro SHOULD mean from a program you pay for. Like, my dad bought photoshop, and I make banners on it. That is the vp meaning of "pro".

<br><br>but people do copy code from pre-coded websites and use it and consider it 'pro'. That's one of the biggest issues I have with the whole misusing of Pro. <br><br>Dreamland pretty much hit the definition on the spot.

  • I know they do, and that's not pro. Those people just want you to buy. It's better now, with no novices on the bp.

  • Don't forget, just because you use a program you buy doesn't necessarily mean you are any good. I'm not referring to you, specifically, just, in general XD

  • true, but not all pros in rl are good either. Think about some illustrators... besides those programs cost +$100

  • I think you have to include the context of the game in this discussion. After all, just because you are a grand master trainer/breeder etc on the game doesn't mean you know the first thing about training/breeding dogs in real life.<br><br>There are many, many, many artists/layout makers that I would consider their work to be professional quality even though they are self taught (no classes) and do not make a real life profit off of it. Within the context of the game though, they are professional. Some even use paint and layout programs to help them create their works.<br><br>They conduct it as a legitimate business in game, make in game profits from it, just as breeders and trainers do. Most that I consider professional do not advertise at all, for the simple reason that they do not have to. They get more than enough business by word of mouth.<br><br>Whatever someone else advertises or says about their own work, you almost have to conclude they are most likely younger kids/teenagers who do not know what real life is about to claim their work as professional and make concessions as such.<br><br>It's a marketing scheme, plain and simple and personally, it really doesn't bother me. I can judge for myself whether or not their work is professional in my eyes and decide whether or not I wish to purchase it.
