I've grown up with show dogs, and my mom has been in the business since
she was 15 and we always get this question when we place our puppies in
non-show homes, but the owners still want to show the pup.
It's well worth it, let me tell you : ) But, now-a-days especially, it gets to
be rather expensive. Not just with entry fees, but with everything else too.
If you were to get a Beardie and show it yourself, you could get free handling classes, but you'd probably want to learn how do a show cut on the
dog, how to keep it's coat up. This means you'd have to purchase grooming supplies, including a table, scissors etc. etc.
If you were to get a handler to do it for you it would also be costing you lots of money. The majority of professional handlers, including my mom and aunts who also show dogs, charge a good 100 for handling fees.
Then there's a matter of grooming to get the dog ring ready, keeping it overnight if the owner doesn't take it home (meaning it's showing both days of the weekend and instead of taking it home, the leave it with us)
and then there's little fees here and there we charge if we have any problems (crate issues, etc. etc.)
When/if you get serious with shows, it takes up alot of your time and money.
It's rather complicated, I must say.
But, in the long run, it's really all worth it :)
So if anything, I would definitely recommend showing your dog if you get one, but just make sure you're able to handle all the costs and time it'll take.

Hope this helps?
If you have any questions feel free to ask me :) I'd be happy to answer as best I can ^_^
 • i groom my dogs (poodles) atm so i dont think grooming would be an issue .. i think money would be the biggest.. im thinking because my mum bough my brother a car, maybe she'll give me the same amount in puppy, and cash, lol, that would be ace.. also if i get male id be able to stud him when he turns two ... (i dont believe in breed male or female before 2)... i think id be doing agility.. as i know they are very hyper... Im not sure if you do agility, if you do and thats what youre talking about then i think id be doing the handling too, :D

Like i said, moneys the real issue.. not puppy costs though cuz i found a couple (they are ready now but im not, lol) 1 was a 15 w/k old boy with papers and he was like £200. im pretty sure i could get that quickly.. :P hopefully il persuade my mum to buy him for my when i move out
