Memoirs of A Fish Owner

January 29th, 2009
Entry 1

Ok this one's a little different! My pet is Challenger, a dark blue siamese fighting fish! A betta in other words. I figured it would be extreamly hard to take a picture of him so for now i'll just write.

I named Challenger this for two reasons, 1. to honor to Astronauts on the Challenger Space craft, and 2. Well he's a fighting fish (not that i would ever fight him or any other type of animal). He lives by himself in his own little glass bowl about 6 1/2 in. in diameter.

He does have his own casle that he get swim in and out of(Which he deserves because i treat him like royalty). He has Teal Gravel at the bottom, and a dark blue ribbon tied around the rim of the bowl.

Here's the food I feed Him;

<img src="http://i316.photobucket.com/albums/mm334/Theprotecter/AWA1648.jpg"; alt="http://i316.photobucket.com/albums/mm334/Theprotecter/AWA1648.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

I know you might think it weird that i'm spoiling a fish, but it just goes to show you that you can love any pet! :D

February 10, 2009 6:00 p.m
Entry 2

AHHH I'm So Scared!!! I just washed Challenger's Bowl like i always do every week and now he's starting to linger at the top!! I'm soo scared!! I luveh meh fishy!! Maybe he just needs some time to get use to the warmer water..... Uhg i'm so worried... :? Does anyones elses bettas do this when their tank/bowl is washed?? uhg this makes me mad i was going to attempt to take a picture of him but now that he's sick i dont want to move his bowl to a lighter place b/c i don't want to disturb him...

February 10, 2009 6:38 p.m
Entry 3

:cry: :cry: :cry: Challenger Died!!! I don't Know what happened! I think the water temperature was too warm.... :cry: .....I feel so bad.... the thermometer was broken so i guesstimated with the water temps... I feel awful!
But since i cant bear to look at the empty fish bowl i decided to put a gold fish in it. But first i'm going to let the water sit for 24 hours before i put a fishie in there!! So I need some cute names!! They must be astronomy/ space-craft related and i will do a vote to see if the public decides the gender because it seems impossible to tell! :D So thanx for reading my Fishie Blog!! :D

 • Is he a veiltail? Or a special tail type?
I used to breed betta fish, and still have a lot of females sitting around in my house :D

They are such interesting fish and actually have pretty neat characters :P
Your pet sounds lovely.

 • I got my first Betta back in November. My sweet Jackson! He's a gorgeous royal blue with red wash. He's really mellow and I had him in with a group of community fish for a while.

I decided to get some females and now I'm hooked! Bettas are by far my favorite fish now!

Jackson, Elizabeth, Buffy, and Sushi are all veiltails and Bijou is a crown tail. I LOVE Bettas!

Jackson and Elizabeth spawned but unfortunately the eggs didn't hatch. Now that I'm a little more experienced and educated, I hope to breed them again some time.
 • Hahahah!
That is amazing!
I didn't think anyone else on here really took that much of an interest in bettas :)

I got the betta bug a couple years ago, and I can't really seem to shake it off, though I have to ever since school has started back up...

Yeah, there are so many things that can go wrong with spawning, and it took me many tries to finally get babies. Spawning is pretty difficult. you really have to research a lot, and they are not really fish to just be 'thrown together'.

Good luck with your next spawn xD

 • Thanks!! I have my sorority tank set up but as I said I only have four females right now. I'm a member of a Betta forum and they advise with sorority tanks to have one female per gallon of water. My sorority is a 20 gallon but I am not going to get that many. I'm hoping for around 6 or 7 girls.

My male Jackson is currently in a 5 gallon by himself. I want to get some more maybe 2.5-5 gallons for a couple more males.
 • I updated it! I'm going to use this as a little Betta Blog for him! :D
