edited January 2009 in Artist Alley
I am improving.. o.o if you can believe it.

This is for my DA I.D thing. The part I -really- want help with is the eyes, because there is something wonky with them that I can't quite figure out o.O Too high up maybe? And, the body is kinda funky looking too >.> But Im trying! Also, any other things you want to critique on would be wonderful :D

<img src="http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x6/Nickelsbanners/RoughSketch.jpg"; alt="http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x6/Nickelsbanners/RoughSketch.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Approx Time so far: 1 hr, 30 min.

And, just to prove I have improved

<img src="http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x6/Nickelsbanners/Kaiyasketch.png"; alt="http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x6/Nickelsbanners/Kaiyasketch.png"; class="bb-image" />
That was my first attempt at a DA I.D xD So... point made xD (should I put I love Ichi on my other one? xD I think my handwriting has gotten better too :lol: ) And.. yes, there are no eyes O.O

Anyway, thanks for looking =D Also, once I've edited my sketch, if anyone is willing to line for me, that'd be great ^^ Ill be sure to credit you on my DA when I post it :wink:

Thanks.

  • I'll try to scan a little people drawing lesson my art teacher gave me last year... its for faces, which is the hardest part.

Its help with eyes, nose, ears, mouth and general proportions

Ok, I couldn't fit all the text on without it looking psyco because I couldn't find the note, but here's what I remember along with a very quick not to scale sketch.

<img src="http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z308/ebony_4_life/tut.jpg"; alt="http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z308/ebony_4_life/tut.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

-Eyes go on the blue line
-Bottom of nose rests on the green line
-Mouth goes on the pink line.

-There should only be enough space between the eyes to fit a third eye with no space
-The middle of the eye (center of the pupil) should line up with the edge of the nostrils if you drew a line down.
-The corners of the mouth should line up with the outside corners of the eyes if you drew a line down.
-Ears should be between the blue and green lines

Thats all I can remember, sorry.

  • The arms are much too short. Finger tips should go down to mid-thigh when standing. Also, her arms are too thin near the shoulder, and her chest/shoulder area seems really out of proportion. The curve between her chest and hips shouldn't be as defined, and her hips should be as wide if not wider than her shoulders.

Only the men are supposed to have wider shoulders than hips. =p The face is also really spread out. Remember, people have foreheads too. xD I think the eyes should be lower, and the nose and mouth a bit higher. And she appears to me lacking ears. D=

That is a terrible assumption! There are many different body shapes. I happen to have a good 1.5 inches on either side wider than my hips. Some females have the classic hourglass figure, some have a pear shaped body, and some don't. There are way to many variations to make a broad statement like that *nods* this is wisdom from my college professor.

Also a few good tutorials for basic things: <a href="http://timflanagan.deviantart.com/art/Basic-Head-Tutorial-Layout-18002862"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://timflanagan.deviantart.com/art/B ... t-18002862
<a href="http://timflanagan.deviantart.com/art/Basic-Head-Tutorial-Female-18003051"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://timflanagan.deviantart.com/art/B ... e-18003051
<a href="http://cedarseed.deviantart.com/art/Big-Guide-to-Drawing-the-Body-15014442"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://cedarseed.deviantart.com/art/Big ... y-15014442
<a href="http://timflanagan.deviantart.com/art/Basic-Female-Torso-Tutorial-4782959"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://timflanagan.deviantart.com/art/B ... al-4782959
The last one you can use to easily fit your body shape.

Use these as a guide, not the rule. I would suggest drawing out the basics of the body, then work with clothing. Also looks like you are trying to mesh the manga/anime with realism art styles. This is why the eyes are really off. The two styles some what oppose each other. I would drop the anime style thinking for a second while you try to do this. Pick up that stylizing of the human form later when you are more familiar with the concepts or ideas.

It really helps if you can find some one who will stay in on position for a long time as a model. If they do want to willingly find a sleeping or reading person, they are often my unsuspecting prey >D

    Due to lack of interest tomorrow is canceled. Let the clocks be reset and the pendulums held.
  • thanks both of you =D I will definatly use that tutorial when I try once again, to perfect my style a little more xD

Yeah.. thanks for pointing out the anime/realism type mix xD I didnt really notice it till you said something.

Oh! And about the ears, there used to be hair covering the left side, where it's open now o.o So, thats why there's no ear there xD I stink at ears, so usually I have hair covering it up :lol:

Thanks :D
