So I think there's a number of gerbil lovers out there so lets start a thread about them!

I've had gerbils since June of 2007. I started researching them in May 2007 though. xD I also foster gerbils for a shelter as of October 31, 2008!

Anyone else love gerbils?

These are my gerbils. Mizzy and Moosey were born May 14th, 2007.

Yes I did! She passes away this summer.

But, he looks like Coffee, except smaller and has half a tail.(hence the name stumpy)

Ooooh, I like this gerbil club. xD I used to have two, but they passed away a while back. I -love- your gerbils by the way Boz. I just thought I would bring up the fact that everyone should be really careful when you own gerbils, because they are escape ARTISTS. They run and hide and won't come out before you give them some sort of offering (sunflower seeds) LOVED my gerbil. She was the best.

I've been amazingly lucky with my girls. They do little to escape. xD I've left the topper open before over night (like twice) and the next morning they were all in still. I can even leave their topper open and walk around my room and they never attempt to get out. I have had Moosey get off my bed though. xD But they can't go anywhere if they get lose in my room. All the vents have covers which are way to small for even a mouse to get through and the bottom of my door is too close to the floor for them to be able to slip under there. xD It's just the matter or catching them! And Moosey's such a stinker, she loooves to sit there and watch me as I try to go near her and as soon as I'm close she runs! She's so goofy. xDD Oh and so you know what I mean by "topper" it's the cage on top of the tank. Made it myself.

lmao. Lucky you are! Fu-fu would back up, and take a running jump to launch herself from on top of the counter where her cage sat :P Crazy creature. And I was reading through some earlier posts, and someone had a gerbil named Stumpy. First off - cutest name ever second - my gerbil only had half a tail too!

A gerbil who has half a tail is a gerbil who lost half their tail, more then likely. (sometimes it's a genetic mutation). That's why gerbils shouldn't be picked up by the tail, they can fall off! It's a technique to escape from predators in the wild. Once I was at a pet store and I asked to see a gerbil. The girl chased it all around the enclosure trying to grab it by the tail. I felt really bad so I said "That's okay I can just put my hand in." That little gerbil was sooo scared. If I barely moved my hand the thing jumped and ran and hid. I felt so bad for him.

ohhh my kinda post! Doggeh recently got some gerbils. Two have gone into the care of a younger sib, (12 yrs old) so I currently own two. I have Mae who is a White spot female, Atogi(sp), with white spots. And then i have Macie Who is solid grey. I don't have pics, but I will get some!!

Oh yeah, that was quite the story. Mr gerbil lost her tail... a while back. I had her for 5ish years before she dies, so she must have been two or three, ans she had escaped. I chased her around the room, panicking, and shutting off all holes and such, but she found a way to climb up into the wall from a hole under the cabinet. I saw her running towards it, and remembered the hole, so I raced after her, and just as her whole body was disappearing up the wall, I grabbed her tail. She kept pulling to get up the wall, and I was panicking, cause I didn't want her to die. So I held on really tight. Unexpectedly; half of her tail just came off, and instead of a gerbil, I was holding half a tail... She fell out of the hole, and I had a chance to grab her. Shocked... I then took action, and she lived another few good years. But wow... that was an experience that I certainly learned from. NEVER, EVER, grab a gerbil by the tail. :D Hope everyone could learn from my scarring event.
