Personal Picture - Critique?

edited October 2008 in Artist Alley
I made this picture for a dyed dog of my. The dog is dyed after my Grandma's Pit Bull mix, Chase. Any critique? I haven't done personal pictures/banners in a while, so..

<img src="http://i38.tinypic.com/in66j4.gif"; alt="http://i38.tinypic.com/in66j4.gif"; class="bb-image" />

The big black blobs WERE stars but for some reason when I uploaded the picture to tinypic they came out like that. :(

  • Awesome!
I like the backround. You used a Roman brush, right?
  • Correct! :D Do you use Photoshop? Any tips on how to get the stars to actually save as stars and not blobs?

Yeah, I use photoshop 7.0

Well, because it is a GIF image, (transparency), I have also been having problems with saving things as such. They always turn out as blobs, or wherever the edges were blurred/smudged, comes out straight and choppy.

Still, your picture looks great
  • Aw, thank you Bruiser. :D

Poop. I wish I knew how to save them right.. If you find out how let me know. :P

  • Yayy!! You have gotten so good Aly! Good job, I love it, so cute!

I use Paint Shop Pro, but saving transparency (yes, I finally figured out how to do it) might possibly be similar. Try this... and sorry if it doesn't work on Photoshop.

1) FILE
2) Export..... GIF Optimizer

On the transparency tab:
-Fill in "Areas that match this color" and change the box color gradient to white
-Tolerance, 0 (you can mess around with this number too, but its usually 0)

On the partial transparency tab:
-Fill in "Use full transparency for pixels below 1% opacity
-Fill in "No, use the existing image color at 100% opacity

On the colors tab:
-It should say, "How many colors do you want?" Make it 256.
-"What method of color section do you want to use?" Optimized Octree

On the format tab:
-"What type of file do you want?" Non-interlaced

And you're done. That's how Paint Shop Pro does it; like I said it might be similar, but it might be totally different. Sorry if it is!

This is how my picture turned out:

<img src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s167/convinceyou/Hello.gif"; alt="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s167/convinceyou/Hello.gif"; class="bb-image" />
Clean edges, uploaded at Photobucket.

  • Reina, I couldn't get it to work.. :(

Rohesia, when I save it as .PNG the transparent part comes out gray?

... I think I might have found a way but it shows up with a small white border around the transparent part, lol. I can't seem to get this right. :P

  • Hmmmmm... I'm pretty sure that it has to be safed as graphics interface or else the transparency won't save properly. So make sure it's .gif and try using photobucket?

.png always shows up better than .gif.

  • Parker, the main font is called IndieStar from Dafont.com.. I'm not sure what the other one is. :P

Why does .PNG show up gray for me? The transparent parts show up gray..
    6on02p.jpg20svx47.png
  • I don't know how it works on photoshop, but on PSP you can set the tolerance so that the stars show up as stars and not blobs and for some reason it just comes in clearer as .png.

  • Thanks for the tip Parker. I learned how to do transparency over a website, step by step.... and they told me to use .gif, but I will try using .png next time, and see what happens. :)

Eagles, when you save it as a transparent picture, is there a "tolerance" tab or something that you can change? You probably have it at 0 right now, but try changing it to 2, 4, 8 and seeing how it saves.
