Dog Meat *ick ;P*

edited September 2008 in General Discussion
Mmk so I've come across something recently and got into a huge fight about eating dog meat and killing dogs to eat. Now some of you may think this is really gross, but I'm used to this kind of stuff, seeing as I'm trying to stop it. And I'm not posting any icky pictures for the sake of your stomach.

Okay, so what are your thoughts on dog meat eating? Here are some choices for ya:

1) Oh, there's a certain breed that aren't really dogs. They are supposed to be eaten, just like cows, chickens, sheep, etc.
2) A DOG is a DOG. It is not right for them to be eaten. Cows, chicken, etc are SUPPOSED to be eaten. DUH!
3) Other

I don't want to start any fights, but my stress level is up to my neck about the whole thing. This other guy is really really stubborn...
I just want to know what you think. My personal feelings is what I wrote above on #2.

Please let me know what you think :D
Thanks !

 • I think it's wrong to eat dog meat.

Of course, every different country has there own different beliefs/traditions ect. but I still find it cruel.

They may say "Well, you eat our sacred cows" but it is not like we abuse and mistreat them before killing them for meat.

They put cans on the dogs nose. They drag them. They tie them up. They beat them. They put them in cages with hundreds of other dogs, without hardly any room to breathe. They skin them alive, then use them for meat and fur.
 • This is VERY disgusting, I think. And just to be clear, I think dogs are MUCH smarter than cows--and not to mention loyal to man. Cows and such COULD be loyal, I suppose, but a chicken?

They walk around saying "Clack, chirp, click" and that's it. Their only other purpose is probably eggs. Which I love.

I hate eating animals, raised for meat or not. I've been critical about being a vegetarian, though, too, but I still don't eat much meat. I was a vegetarian for one whole month, pretty good for me, lol, and it was really hard, because there are some meats that I DO like every now and then.

But anyhow, DOGS?! Beliefs or not--that's a domesticated PET. It makes me want to lie down and cuddle up with my two mutts and cry!

I think it's wrong, DOGS are DOGS. They're not meant to be raised for meat, they're much too intelligent, loyal, and loving!
 • I think it's wrong to eat any kind of animal..
Dont you think they want to live just as much as we should?

Dogs are dogs yes.. But aren't Cows cows? and Chickens chickens?
I think it's all wrong.

 • #1

An animal is an animal. They are here to eat. To me atleast animals are not above humans. I would eat my dog if it meant my family dieing or my dog dieing of hunger.
Pigs are like 10x smarter then dogs. We eat them. mmm bacon
Anyway I live to eat meat. =P I think I would try just about any kind of meat.

 • 1.

I agree with zoe on this one.

Human beings are omnivores and we eat both plants and animals. We do need to eat meat to keep the body healthy (except for those that use supplements). It is natural for living things to eat other living things. I believe that ideas is what made people think what they do natural wrong.

Sylver, do you think that ALL people do that eat dog meat? Now I could never eat a dog seeing as I own one. So I believe its fine and a little grosss. Like I said, I would never personnaly eat a dog.

 • I. Many people discount dogs from being eaten because dogs are our friends, we love dogs, and omg they're our pets. It's okay to say if you won't eat them but to jump on other people for eating them is not okay. You don't diss on other people's cultures for things like this, no matter how weird it is for you.

II. What makes cows so much different from dogs? A life is a life is a life. Are they worth less? more? because they're smarter/more loyal/omg it's my pet?

III. Abuse before eating: not only dogs go through this. Tons of animals go through this. Some of them live through it in order to produce eggs or milk. I'm not vegan or even vegetarian (I like meat, even if I don't eat it very often), but this is why I support hunting - if you've ever been to a slaughterhouse, hunting (for meat) is so much more humane.
 • i can't say that i will never eat dog, because i don't know until the time comes.
I could possibly visit a country and they eat dog, and if i was offered i would probably eat it like them.

But, yes humans are omnivores. We live off meat and vegetation/fruit. It isn't wrong to eat meat. But some humans see that eating dog is not right because they see them as a pet, a family member..a loved one.
I'm pretty sure i wouldn't eat a loved one, unless i truly needed to in order to survive.

Cows are sacred to India, dogs are sacred to other people.
When some eat cow, some see that as a bad thing.
When others eat dog, some see that as a bad thing.
But is it really bad. Eating meat to fill our bodies with the things we need?
I don't think so...
 • Meat is meat. To me, the main difference in terms of the source is the flavor. Eating anything for meat is fine with me - BUT it is not okay for any animal to suffer to become my meal, be it a dog, a cow, a chicken or a deer. ;)

Heh, very good point, Zoe. Yes, animals are below humans. It's just that the way I see it, cows don't do anything but give us milk and meat. Chickens give us eggs and meat. Sheep give us wool and meat. Dogs give us love, protection, loyalty, friendship, etc. Why would people eat dog if they can easily find a cow or wild pig to hunt down? Hence the name "livestock". Also hence "man's best friend".
:]
 • I personally would never eat dog meat. BUT, each country and religion have their OWN thoughts on this. As I believe someone has already pointed out, the cow is a sacred animal in some Indian cultures and it is a punishable offence to eat one. Yet we eat cows like its a normal occurance. Don't get me wrong, I DON'T agree with the cruelty that sometimes goes with the preparing of dog meat.

Some places even eat ferret and guinea pigs too, which being a ferret owner, find it rather disturbing, but again, different cultures.

Haha, yes well dogs can do so much more with their lives than filling the stomach for a couple short hours. They can save peoples' LIVES, earn thousands of dollars in events, companionship, etc.

Hm.. true. I suppose I'm just a dog-freak-lover and I don't want them being killed for meat. Thinking of how greatly I envied them when I was little, thinking all they could do is make people happy and make me happy. It's just sad now being older and knowing that horrible truth.
