• I personally suggest you get a rat. Mice can become tame with continuous gentle handling, but will often remain wary of humans.

Whereas rats will interact and even ask to come out of the cage. Rats can live 1-2 years longer than mice aswell. The only thing about mice and rats is that they are very social animals, so it is best that you purchase 2.

Mice and rats have incisor teeth that grow continuously, so therefore you need to offer a constant supply of something for them to chew on. Wooden blocks/sticks should be fine. Also offer fresh fruits and vegetable aside from their basic grain/seed diet.

Rats should have at least 2 square feet of cage space, whereas mice could probably go with a little less. A little. You can use wood shavings as bedding, but only use Aspen, as Cedar and pine can cause respiratory illnesses amongst rodents. You can also use carefresh or a few other options that are available, such as shredded paper or cardboard. Rats and mice also like shelves and rats like hammocks. Do not place your cage in any direct sunlight, as these rodents are nocturnal and therefore will snuggle up in the dark during the day. They will move about at random times during the day, though their most active hours are between 9:30 PM and 7:30 in the morning.

Provide your animal with a hidey hole, such as a pigloo or something else, and play often with them, with 2, at least 20 minutes daily, and with one, as often as possible, preferably more than a couple hours. It would be nice to offer them toys and running wheels aswell.

Rats can be potty trained.

Please see established websites on rats and mice, you may find many great sources through google.

All this was written by me, and not taken from a website.

 • Rats are awesome, I had one and she was the best... so sweet, never mean. She got sick at about a year though and had to be put down (yes, that's right, I went all the way to the emergency vet for a rat... she was my baby -cries-) I'd love to get another one but I just don't have the time right now..
