Meh pups and meh guinneas

edited June 2008 in General Discussion
So, I have 4 huge dogs and they all bark at my guinneas when they come over. My guinnea pigs, Trixie and Sophie, they live at my grandma's. I want them to live here, and we could afford it, but my dogs constantly bark at them Well, my mom got barking collars and Sadie is going to obediance classes, do you think I could pull it off? Any suggestions?

  • Maybe keep the guinea pigs in a room that the dogs don't go in? Sysco FLIPS OUT when he sees almost any other animal. He's okay with my guinea pigs though since he has constant through-the-cage contact with them, and they even nose each other through the cage. The guineapigs let them kiss them through the cage too, its so cute. Sysco is somewhat used to the lizards, but he stares and gets fidgety when we take them out to feed them. He's getting better about that. But my ferrets...dear lord. That dog has a spazz attack like crazy when he sees the ferrets. He'll yelp and bark and yip and throw himself against the cage and stuff to try to get to them...we had to move them out of my room because of that (the dogs stay in my room, mom says they're my dogs, so she shouldn't have to deal with them). The problem we still have is the ferrets can only play in my room (the only ferret proof room) and mom won't let Pocco and Sysco go into any other room while the ferrets are playing...so I have to put them in the crate. And I'm afraid Sysco will hurt himself someday, throwing himself against the sides of the crate...

Anyway, that was my long-winded way of suggesting keeping the guinea pigs in a room that the dogs don't go in. :P
    Bye.
  • Oh, kite, it is fine. I like longer posts better than short ones. How do you keep them from going under your bed? xD Sysco is a small dog, my problem is that Roscoe, well, you know, he's biggish.

  • We have a dog gate fence thing up :P

I know, but you see...if the guinea pigs are in a room that the dogs can't get into, it doesn't matter how big or small the dogs are.

  • Great Danes always respect baby gates. Seriously. The baby gate will be 12 inches tall and he will be five feet behind it watching us eat. Well, we feed Roscoe human food, just not in our dining room.

  • I don't wanna get on your case, but its usually not good to feed dogs most human foods.
Yes, and I had an argument with my mom. But, Roscoe is already on a special diet of high sodium because of bladder stones. And we NEVER feed him stuff like chicken enchiladas or anything. Mainly veggies and plain meat, we have a very balanced diet with him.
